Hi - has anyone’s hypo symptoms got worse? I have had type 1 for 4 years now and the last 6 months my hypo symptoms are so much worse than they used to be. I used to be able to bear it but now it scares the life out of me, I can’t take the adrenaline dumps or palpitations I literally feel like I’m gonna die!

Hi @briony1 ,

Has anything changed like type of basal in the last 6 months? What insulins are you prescribed?

Hi @briony1 Sorry to hear that.

I’d recommend seeing your DSN and reviewing your diabetes in full with them, seeing what adjustments could be made to alleviate this - hopefully they can support you so that this can improve. My symptoms only get worse if I free fall into a hypo or go lower than usual but otherwise they are all similar.

Hi @briony1 , could you be getting slightly less warning for hypos so that they're happening at lower blood sugars? In any case, talk to your clinic. Hypos are no fun and it's best to avoid them as much as possible. I find that if I start to lose my warning for hypos keeping my blood sugar a little higher for a while gets me back on the right track, but this may or may not be applicable to your situation.

Hi @briony1
if your hypos appear to be getting worse i also think that you may be losing a bit of hypo awareness....i have experienced this and instead of getting a little bit shaky or sweaty at around 3.9 - 4.1
i was getting bad vision problems and a feeling of panic setting in but my levels were around 2.2-2.7
which is way too low to be getting first symptoms

so as others have said get in touch with your Diabetes nurse and explain , and ask for a full review with her.

I find my hypos get more and less severe with time. It seems to have no patterns re diet, hba1c ect. Just seems a quirk and the 5 T1s in my family are the same. Review your betes if you feel needed but it may be just in flux for a while. Have stuff on board and roll with the punches is how I usually go.
