Hypo

I think I had a hypo today, my own fault I suppose as I was dashing around to do lots of errands and suddenly felt hot sweaty and faint but I am really confused about what I should have done. Should I eat something sweet or drink lucozade ?
I managed to get back to my car ( rang my son who came and got me some chips to eat ) I felt ok after them except for headache.
Since I have been told to avoid ALL sweet things, sugar, chocolate, cake, biscuits etc I just don,t know if a choc bar or sugar drink would be ok. Not easy to carry a jacket potato or chips in my bag

It sounds like hypo (sweats, dizinnes).Always have something sweet in your bag or pocket. It can be some little sweets. In case of hypo thats the best as acts very quickly. You need only 10 g of sugar and thats not a lot. crisps can not help because it realeses sugar slowly and when you have hypo you need to act quickly.
You should have been told that sometimes sugar is what you need the most.

I have Dextro tablets for small hypos in the 3s. Lucozade for when I'm in the 2s.

Because I am Type 2 and not on insulin I was told I do not have hypo,s .......... I was told just go away cut out all sugars and you will be fine.
Seems a bit more involved than that !

Thanks again

Do you take medication other than Metformin? If not then you should not be having hypos...

Any chance you might be able to test your BG if that should happen again? As mentioned above, it's best to treat a suspected hypo immediately but it would be useful to know what's going on.
Since you mentioned chocolate... avoid chocolate since the fat would slow down absorption

I do not take even metformin ( though I am thinking of accepting metformin as it was offered last year, at the time I said no thanks as I thought I could do it with diet )
However I have a massive list of other medications for conditions not related to diabetes.

I will have to save up and buy some strips to test BG

What level are you counting as hypo?

If just diet, are you actually blood testing?

There could be a number of other reasons for symptoms you describe.
