Hello all, just a question in the last 2 days I have had the symptoms of a hypo but when I test my blood is between 4.8 and 5.6 (this is using 3 separate meters). Is it just me or are those readings good? :***:

Great numbers!!

Have you been high though? Sometimes when I'm high for a while I start feeling hypo at random times but I'm not.

Maybe tiredness has made you feel like your hypo?

Hello Faith,
I have been decorating the house so could be why, but another thing I don't understand is the overwhelming tiredness/fatigue I seem to feel all the time since being diagnosed. I do get the odd high now and then Faith but nothing to worry about (usually I have been naughty  ) I have a sweet tooth but the DN said that's fine every now and then.

It is a strange one although if I think about it sometimes before bed I feel hypo and check but I'm usually fine. It could be a subconscious fear of being hypo that makes us feel hypo so that we check our sugars....

Then again you've been busy so your probably just tired. Keep an eye on it though and always check, it's best to be safe than sorry.

It's well known that if a person is used to running a high blood glucose, they adapt and when it goes down to Normal, they feel hypo.
A non-diabetic tends to have a reading close to 5 pretty much all the time, with minimal fluctuations. I've let non-diabetics play with blood glucose meters many times. Abbott Diabetes Care donated one for a meeting a couple of years ago. In that time, I've only once discovered someone with a BG over 7 ONCE. and that was in a person of fairly high risk, an hour or so after eating a pasta bake. Bernstein says in one of his books that whenever he tests a non-diabetic sales person who comes into his office, he finds a bg of 85mg/dl [ 4.7 mmol/l]. I tested my son-in-law on Sunday, because he spotted my meter in the house and wanted to try. I told him it would be" btween 5 and 6, nearer to 5 He was impressed with my prediction [the result was 5.3!] Yes I took all hygeine precautions with a fresh lancet.
Sorry for the ramble, but if you feel hypo at around 5, you are running too high Most of the time.

I can't believe I'm reading this. On the rare occasion I dip into 5s I feel hypo too. BG is between 7 and 11 every day going as high as 19 yet my GP thinks there is absolutely nothing that needs addressing.

All the literature says anything up to 11 mmol is normal. 2 hours at 7.8 or under are normal but every time I have tested other people or diabetics on this site have tested other people 'truly normal' proves to be around 5... Pretty much all the time @_@

But anyways, OP you are certainly not weird. It it good you checked though because correcting a false hypo could send you too much the other way and you'd feel equally as rotten, if not, more!

As a general rule, if one feels 'a bit funny' it's always best to know for sure as you duly checked. Hopefully you'll get used to being in such nice parameters <3 xx All the best x

Ps What's your blood pressure like? Too low can lead to hypo-like dizziness/doziness

Those readings appear fine, but if you've experienced a lot of highs recently or your BG has bn high for a while as the level drops you will feel hypo at a higher than usual level. The reverse is also true which can lead to hypo- unawareness. The most important thing is to test your BG but if you're unable to and you feel hypo, treat it as hypo anyway.
