It's well known that if a person is used to running a high blood glucose, they adapt and when it goes down to Normal, they feel hypo.
A non-diabetic tends to have a reading close to 5 pretty much all the time, with minimal fluctuations. I've let non-diabetics play with blood glucose meters many times. Abbott Diabetes Care donated one for a meeting a couple of years ago. In that time, I've only once discovered someone with a BG over 7 ONCE. and that was in a person of fairly high risk, an hour or so after eating a pasta bake. Bernstein says in one of his books that whenever he tests a non-diabetic sales person who comes into his office, he finds a bg of 85mg/dl [ 4.7 mmol/l]. I tested my son-in-law on Sunday, because he spotted my meter in the house and wanted to try. I told him it would be" btween 5 and 6, nearer to 5 He was impressed with my prediction [the result was 5.3!] Yes I took all hygeine precautions with a fresh lancet.
Sorry for the ramble, but if you feel hypo at around 5, you are running too high Most of the time.
