Hi . My morning reading was 8.6 then after eating it was 9. 1.
I then spent the morning gardening.
Sat down on bench as felt really funny. But dizzy, tired, woozy. Bit like drunk.
Thought I'd come in for lunch and did my test.
It was 4.6.

This is very low for me as you will see from my other posts.

Was this a hypo I was experiencing. I don't know.
I ate spaghetti on Livlife bread and grated cheese.
Still feeling weird though.

Thoughts?

Lin.

If 4.6 is a lot lower than you would normally see then you can experience all the symptoms of a hypo without actually being technically hypo. These are sometimes called "false hypo's", there are threads here on them or you can Google it.

Thank you. All a bit new.

Could well have been. Sounds quite similar to my hypos.

I usually feel a bit odd for a few hours, but get steadily better.

Some people believe you can't get a 'real' hypo if your BG is above 4 but anyone can have hypo symptoms if they are used to higher BG levels and then it drops suddenly.

I'm not sure if you are type 2 or type 1, but can I suggest you watch your BG for the rest of the day? I'm a type 2 and Sometimes I get a see-saw effect where the highs are higher and the lows are lower for a while. For me, the best option is plenty of protein because it digests slowly and drip feeds your BG while everything settles down again.

How horrible! Hope you feel better soon. I had a similar thing a few weeks back but went to 3.3 and NHS help line sent paramedic. Turns out I was on to much metformin. Have you lost weight or changed diet recently? Take care xxx

I'm type 2 . I have only just last week really started to get any single figures. Which is good as it means what I'm doing is working. It's def a learning curve. Lol.

No my weight loss has stopped. But not gaining either so that's a bonus.

What diet are you following? I eat LCHF - difficult to lose weight with thyroid problems? @Totto might have some good advice on this. I know she helped me loads :)

Hi, I wouldn't technically rule it out as a "hypo" certainly a sign that you may have needed to eat..?
I've known of some non Ds say they feel this way if they needed food, even though they aren't likely go into the "classic symptoms" following on when Which I doubt their sugars would drop further...?

Now I'm not a big fan of gardening.. lol but I do like dealing with the "hardware".
For instance I was slabbing a patio & extending a path width... The rule measure twice, cut once.. Bent double with the tape measure & doing the maths easy, but stand back up & "hello" this is astrophysics... I would start feeling this about 3.7. ?
But if you are used to higher blood sugars... (Please excuse my analogy.) I would assume it would be like an alcoholic going straight? Until they get used to it..

Maybe worth while for peace of mind getting checked out though....;)

Jaylee you made me smile. Yes I get your point. I have always been funny if I'm late eating.,I get migraines and very grumpy.
I have worked very hard these last 3 months since diagnosis to get my levels down and my vision back. So my body probably just needs to adjust as you say. Thanks.

Scandichic. Thanks. Yes it is. I put on severeL stone since no thyroid function. Now as well as d2 my gp says my blood test shows I'm no longer absorbing the thyroxine properly. Yeah!!! That's why I feel like £&@? Then.
Off to see endocrinologist on Monday so see what he has yo say.

Lin, I would take this as a good sign that your diet and the exercise you did is actually working to actively lower your BG Levels. Keep up the good work and you will regularly be seeing this sort of level and you will not feel bad as your brain will be less addicted to the syrup it has been swimming in.

Ask if you can trial T3 as an addition to Levo. Or even better, try NDT.

Hi, Lin.

If it helps, I used to get quite a few of these episodes a few months ago, when I first started to lower my BG by lowering my carbs. They're a bit disconcerting but I've not had any ill effects, leastways not as far as I know.

My BG is now regularly goes into the 4s (lowest I've recorded was 4.3) but the bouts of dizziness etc. have gone. I don't know when they stopped but it was 2-3 months after I'd changed my diet.

Some exercise raises my BG, BTW, but I've found gardening - and I do quite a bit - reduces it. I've assumed it's because the less strenuous exertion doesn't prompt my liver to release a lot of glucose into the bloodstream, as it can when you're exercising more vigorously.

We're all a bit different. but it does sound as though you're generally on the right track. Good luck!

@Totto I knew you'd have some good advice! How are you? One week and it's the school holidays. Yay!

Working flat out. But, happily, with an energy I haven't had for a quarter of a century. Come and see me in the holidays?
Självklart! How's the weather? Lovely here. We walked to the Central Park in the centre of town because the paddling pool has just opened so the kids had a great time. Twill be great to have more time to catch up with friends throughout the world during the hols. How I love my ipad and all the people it enables me to talk to at the click of a button all over the world, including remote parts of Sweden. It seems remarkable that 23 years ago when I was a student in Sweden, people still used public phone boxes, essays were hand written and a portable CD player was the best technology had to offer! Take carex

As a new diabetic I can also say at around 4.6/4.4 I get classic hypo symptoms....I think one has to remember that these values ie hypo only starts below 4.... Is/are averages and we all know none of us are average ie every human body is different!

So on average if your bg drops below 4 you would be hypo, but you as an individual could already be going into a state of hypoglycaemia at 4.4/4.2.

Sometimes we become way to fixated on the numbers!

Yes, and in addition, you have to factor in the slight inaccuracy of the BG readings (the glucometers can be inaccurate by anywhere up to 20%, depending on various variables).
