Hypoglycaemia (a hypo) just means low blood sugar. If you feel funny and have a blood testing meter you'll be able to check for it. Roughly anything below 3.5 is hypoglycaemic.

Symptoms are sweating, shaking, faintness, confusion, etc.

Watch out for 'false hypos'. These happen when your body has got used to high sugars and they start coming down. Eg if your sugar is akways around 20 and you suddenly get it down to 8 you may feel shaky, but 8 isn't a 'real' hypo, it's just your body not being used to lower normal sugars.

If you have a hypo, have something sweet and quickly absorbed, like some regular Coke, some sugar or some glucose tablets.

It's something to be aware of, but I don't think you should worry about it.

Hi there, I'm going to tag @daisy1 who will answer shortly with lots of basic information which will help you with your questions. I'm also tagging @CatLadyNZ who is great at giving links to articles (I'm rubbish at it) I know that diabetes.co.UK has a great article on recognising hypos and what to do. Meantime, glad you've found this forum, you'll get lots of help and support here

If you go to the home page or use the search function, there is a lot of information on hypoglycaemia. Glicizide is a blood glucose lowering medication, if you have problems with this drug seek medical advice. There is also a lot of threads on glicizide.

Here is some info about hypoglycaemia:

Here is some info about the class of drugs that gliclazide is in:

It can a week or so to start seeing lower blood glucose (BG) levels on gliclazide. Read the info that Daisy1 will post and take note of the info on reducing carbs in your diet. Medication can help but it's more important to reduce carbs because they turn into sugar in your body and will keep your BG levels high. If after a few weeks your levels are still over 8.5 a lot of time then you should see your doctor. Please ask your doctor all the questions you need to, as they are required to tell you about medications, side effects, and how to manage your diabetes.
