Hypoglycemia?

I'm 25 years old and quite slim, over the past 3 months, maybe a little longer i've had to be really careful as to what i eat as certain foods make me feel really ill, it seems that the problem is sugar, eg cola type drinks, some fruit juices, chocolate, sweets, cakes.
Just drinking half a glass of coke with a bar of chocolate (something i was once able to do fine) now makes me feel awful-i start to sweat and feel uncomfortably warm, shaky and feel "ill"-its really hard to describe but its the most awful feeling, within 5-10 minutes the worst of the feeling is over and i start to feel a normal temperature again!

I can eat two digestive biscuits but a 3rd will make me feel ill.
I remember when i'd drink a 750ml bottle of coke within an hour and feel fine, now theres no chance, because even just the smallest amount of the above will make me feel "off".

In myself i feel tired all the time, i could easily sleep for 12 hours a day! but i have a lot of trouble getting to sleep.
I exercise well-about two hours walking each day but increasingly i feel more fatigued by the last hour.

I'm just wondering what the people here think this sound like? I've been looking on the internet for a while and although it sounds like hypoglycemia some of what I've read suggests sugar for when you start to feel "ill" which bearing in mine my current reaction to sugar doesn't sound right.

It may be the opposite - hyperglycaemia, or blood glucose too high - which can have the same symptoms as a hypo. This might be triggered by the sweet stuff you've had spiking your blood glucose levels.

None of us on here is qualified to give you a diagnosis. I suggest you go to your GP, explain these symptoms exactly as you have here, and ask if your blood glucose levels can be checked. Get a morning appointment and don't eat or drink (except water) for 10 hours before you go, so you can give a fasting blood sample if required. (Take your breakfast with you and eat it afterwards - I do! )

If your blood test is okay, then ask your doctor what else it could be.

And above all - don't panic! You're probably fine, but the best thing is to see your GP.

I am not a diagnosed diabetic but have been suffering from these same symptoms very recently, chocolate seems to be my worst enemy, also ive been suffering from low blood sugar for years but only getting infrequent attacks except lately its been a lot more often.

I would suggest getting a blood glucose meter to test your blood sugar at certain times, the good people on here will give you great advice.

Hi PP,

If nobody answers this post directly then I would phone all teaching hospitals and ask for the Endocrinology Dept. Ask the question there as it is an Endo that you need.

Hi
This is my first post on this site. I seem to be having more and more hypo's. In the last 3 weeks I have had around 5 episodes of hypo's. I have one today and one yesterday. I have brought some glucose tablets when I get these episodes. Also today I brought a monitor to see what is going on with my blood. I have spoken to my GP about this and he has asked me to have a blood test to see if I am low on some vitamin and minerals. I will get the results next week when I see him about the the loss of sensation over most of my body. it started with the feet and now moved up to just under bust line and above this it has started to get patchy. I take Gabapentin for nerve pain which has helped a lot with pain. I also take a load of other medications to control my fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed with an inhered type of cholesterol and triglycerides problem. When I had my first lot of tests in September last year when I looked up the results it said that it could be pre-diabetes. I am overweight at the moment I need to lose at least 6 stone to get back in the healthy range.

My brother got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about a year ago. Hopefully once he has his gastric bypass it will disappear.
