Hypos -_-
Has anyone else noticed poor food choices when having hypos? I usually drink lukozade and eating biscuits or food with saturated fats etc which typically hurts your hbA1C and cholestorol. Has anyone else found having food prepared making there choices any better cause we all know that we aren't thinking right during low bloods. Any help would be appreciated

Although it's been a long time since I've experienced a hypo, Lucozade and biscuits sounds about right to get the BG back to "normal".
Unless you were having to drink Lucozade and eat biscuits several times a day, I don't see that it would affect an HbA1c that much. As for saturated fats hurting total cholesterol, how much are you eating. I don't think anybody can say how much fat has to be consumed to make any significant difference to total cholesterol, LDL or HDL.
You might like to check out the 1963 study "Diet and Plasma Cholesterol in 99 Bank Men" reported in the BMJ. Then there's the 1976 "Tecumseh study", the Evans county study, the Israel Ischemic Heart Disease Study, the Framingham study, the 1978 Bogalusa Heart Study, the 1981 Western Electric study.
I'll not go on. There just seems to be a lot of studies that do not show a connection between saturated fat consumption and cholesterol levels.

Unfortunately I think the poor food choices are the things that can bring your BS back up the quickest and they are also more readily available. My last hypo on saturday happened when I was in town so caramello chocolate was the easiest thing to get hold of. It would take a lot of excellent planning on my part to avoid the poor food choices at a time like that so chocolate it is.

Lucozade is an excellent choice when you have a hypo. It works very quickly, and was an absolute lifesaver when I was pregnant, as I had a number of hypos.

I don't see how it'd affect your HbA1C unless you really overdid it and drank pints of the stuff. If you just drink enough to get you back to normal levels, then that'd be fine.

i try to stick with glucose tablets, but they're sometimes not practical or I've run out. Also, I sometimes just get sick of the taste of the d*mn things. A bit of variety in hypo treatments is ok occasionally : )

First off try not to eat foods that are high in fat to treat hypo's as fat delays the digestion, I use Jelly Babies (2-3) to treat a hypo and only follow up with a small snack if its within an hour or two from bolusing.

Unless your having frequent hypo's I don't really think it will have much effect on your Hba1c @PadraigH94

DAFNE and INSIGHT suggest 15g of quick acting carbs to treat a hypo so x3 jelly babies, x10 jelly beans or x5 fruit pastilles, for example. Only rules are it should be fast acting, so high in glucose/sugar. The mini cans of coke are 15g carbs, FYI! Then as already suggested, if you are on MDI follow up with a snack
