Hi everyone!!
Hope u all r doing well.
My question is that,my son whose is type 1,and five years old,is on lantus once a day,his random levels are stable but fasting levels r down, between 55 to 65. After dinner i give him a fruit or a cup of milk before going to bed but still the same low levels of bg.
I cant reduce the insulin dose as his random levels r stable with this dose. Problem is that his doc is out of country for a vacation of a week. In the meantime what should I do to maintain his fasting levels????

Ur suggestions and advices r greatly needed and appreciated.

Thankyou.

Have you tried giving him a slightly bigger bedtime snack eg a cup of milk plus a biscuit?

A while ago someone on the forum posted a msg about cheese being able to prevent hypos and trying this out on myself before bed, it appears to make my bg levels rise a bit so this be useful for your son. If he likes a cracker with some dairylee triangle cheese on it nice and thick, topped with a heaped teaspoon of peanut butter that should be a good hypo preventer that will make insulin struggle to lower bg. Worth trying just to see.
The other way is to get cgm and set up alarms. Another way is to download the app Sentector which listens to sound and can be used between 2 mobile phones.......One for the user and one for the listener.

Yes I m trying different types of bedtime snacks like biscuits and milk, milkshake, even a medium size chocolate but results r the same, low fasting bg levels.
What should I do???

Thanks for the reply
My son don't like cheese... I m trying different ways to tackle the situation....
Lets hope for some betterment!!!

It's not an ideal solution but in the meantime could you try testing during the night to find out when he starts to go low, then wake him to give him a little extra food? So give him a bedtime snack as normal, but also something during the night, ideally just before he starts to drop.

I m also thinking the same thing.... Ok,tonight I'll keep a constant eye on his bg levels then see what is the trend of his levels.
Anyways,thanks.
