Just wondering why i keep having hypos during the night and end up raiding the fridge at 3am every morning. My blood result before i went to bed was 8.9 (high but thats quite good for me.. i didnt take any insulin before bed as i fell asleep so didnt get the chance but at 3am i was waking up with my bloods being 3.1.. any ideas why this would happen?

Looks like your basal dose is too high if your having a hypo every-night, if you get the basal dose right your bg levels shouldn't really fluctuate by more than 1.5mmol/l when fasting.

The hunger feeling and raiding the fridge is your body's response to the low bg levels, try not to over-treat as this is counter-productive and you'll wake with bg levels too high.

If you're going to bed at 8.9 and dropping to ~3 then I agree that your basal dosage is definitely too high. You should speak to your nurse/consultant about adjusting it, especially since it sounds like this is consistent.

just as others have said, basal would seem too high overnight.........

what basal/long acting insulin are you using at the moment?
