Hi,

I'm type 2 and just treating with LCHF diet and exercise. Just recently I've been having hypos during the night and sometimes in the day. Lowest was 3.3. I self fund to test which I don't mind but I'm confused as the nurse/doctor said I am not at risk of having hypos. The only other time I had a hypo was at the dentist but I put this down to a mix of injections and stress as I'm terrified of the dentist.

I eat regularly, plenty of veg, protein and fats. I've lost 1.5 stone and other than hypos been between 4-7 daily with rare times of being higher.

Appreciate any advise/ your stories.

Thanks

@Jessica120714 how much exercise and how much food is in your diet?
How long have you been diagnosed as type 2?
When is your next appointment with your diabetes nurse?

Moderate walking daily and occasionally go the gym.

I eat three meals a day (low carb lidl roll for breakfast, salad etc for lunch and then meat and veg for tea) and sometimes have cheese/nuts as a snack if I feel hungry.

I'm due an appointment sometime next month and I was diagnosed in December.

Hi,
Can you give us a list of your meds, to give us an idea how and why you are getting low readings? As your food doesn't contain many carbs.

Those should not be giving you low readings.
It could be you are perfectly ok at those levels. Some diabetics are.
The reading you quoted is just below what I consider hypo territory.
I would monitor your progress and see if it's the norm or not.
If you go lower, let us know and we will advise you further, if you do go low treat it as if it was a hypo.
Hope this helps.

I was worried because I felt awful/ blurred vision, shaking, clammy and really irritable. It's happened three times in the last 24 hours now but not changed my routine at all.

One in the night.

One at around 2pm- treat with sweets and then ate a meal around twenty mins after.

Another at 4pm

Did you test yourself with your monitor?
At your next meal test before, then every half hour after, then if you hypo, counteract it with quick acting carbs. Let us know what you have to eat.
It could be late onset T1, if you are already low carbing, which I know nothing about.
If you were eating a lot of carbs, I would guess it was RH.
But we can't diagnose on here!

Yes, about an hour after breakfast (11am) I was at 5.6 which is normal for me. Then at 2pm I was at 4 but felt awful so treat at a hypo and then had my lunch (gammon, eggs, carrots, swede and peas) and then an hour after I was at 3.8. I've now had some cheese and nuts and am around 5. It's all a bit strange. The only difference in routine is I'm away visit family but I cooked this morning and ate out this afternoon. What is RH?

It's my condition. Called reactive hypoglycaemia.
It is a moderately rare condition which mimics T2 symptoms because that's what blood glucose disorders do!
The use of glucose from a carbohydrate meal is fast, then insulin and glucagon take over and insulin wins, so our blood glucose levels drop to hypos.
We spike very quickly and then hypo afterwards.
There is a link below.

Anyhow back to you, they are not that low, you could be lower, but it's just below normal range, it could be your body telling you to eat something as you are not used to being that low. It could be termed as a false hypo as well.
You will have to keep monitoring your bloods.

Ok, so been monitoring my bloods and the same thing happened yesterday and now today.

Had breakfast at around 11am (half a low carb lidl roll with cream cheese) and a coffee with cream.

2pm started feeling shaky, blurred vision etc. Checked bloods- 3.5 so have no eaten my dinner (chicken thighs) and will check to see what happens. I was shopping at the time

Any advise? It's really getting me down because I've not changed what I'm eating etc
