This is interesting.. my uncle who is on dialysis has stopped metformin too.- I was on Gliclizide also. am still on it. never knew it was a old drug..was put on sitagliptin maybe a year or 2 ago.. I really have heard a lot of stories about Trulicity. if it doesn't respond to me very well i shall be dropping it as well. rather not be sick and nauseas all the time while on a drug.. sorry to hear about the kidney failure.--- which drug are you taking now? only Ozempic and Gliclizade?
Gliclazide is a second generation sulfonylurea medication first licenced in 1977. Not a new kid, but not an oldie either. It can be used by those with reduced kidney function (stage 3). It overcomes many of the shortcomings of the first generation meds such as beta cell burnout. It has been found to be heart protective since the heart also has receptors for it like the beta cells. Sulfonylurea is manufactured naturally by the delta cells in the pancreas, so it is something we were designed to use.

Even at the dose i take which is 80mgx3 I never gained any weight- which some people have said it can cause weight gain.

Well when I was on 4x 80 mg of it (max dose) I gained weight, but then I was on Eatwell and the booze so I think it was fighting a losing battle. Since going LCHF 7 years ago my weight dropped 7 stone and has held the new me level quite doggedly since. I eat high calorie, medium carb now, and it still does not put weight on me but then I have cut down on my dose (1x40mg now). One thing I do notice is that alcohol magnifies its effect, so maybe if one were to drink alcohol to excess then it might matter, but then who cares? Do I worry (hic)?

Actually glic only works while there is the GLP-1 demand after eating, so as long as the DPP4 pathway is operating correctly, the glucagon at the end of the metabolism phase will shut it all down nicely and naturally so the effect is limited to when it is required. Not sure how it will fare if given in conjunction with something like Trulicity since that overrides the GLP-1 pathway longterm but then it is the trulicity controlling the insulin , not the glic.

I have been on Ozempic since October 2020. I started off on 0.25 mg moved to 0.5mg and up to full 1mg dose once a week at end December 2020. The full dose certainly left me feeling a bit nauseous at times. It gave me a lot of indigestion and even made me quite violently sick occasionally. However my body did even learn to tolerate it. On the upside, I have lost 48.5Kg (from 20stone 13 down to 13 stone 5). My HbA1C has fallen though not as dramatically as I would like. Initially it fell from 78 down to 42 but it has gradually crept back up to around 60. I am currently considering coming off ozempic and going onto a basal/bolus insulin regime.

Hi All.

I am going off sitagliptin and going onto Ozempic if anyone has experience of being on or are on this medicine
please do tell me your experience. - All i know is its to be taken once a week and that its good for weight-loss.
hopefully it can help with bringing my blood sugar down so feel better and get active again.

i will be starting Monday. so i will see how this medicine works, I am hoping it does work for me because Gliclizide isn't no longer helping me.

I am getting my C-peptide checked again too.
I've been on Ozempic for almost two years. My dose is 0.5. I can truthfully say I've had no problems with it. While I've not lost weight I find my sugar levels are within my normal range. It is a good medication for me.

I'm on Ozempic and Humulin insulin. Previous to this I was on Lantus for years but it never seemed to help as it just maintained a straight level in the background. I knew something wasn't right as I could practically starve myself and the bs still wouldn't come down. Luckily I got a new DN and she suggested Humulin which peaks after 4 hours. Still trialling the dosage at the moment. Have noticed I've put about 4lbs on and this is my worry as I've just lost 3 stone, partly due to Ozempic and found I was taking too much of the original insulin so reduced it. Asked my doctor about eye issues with Ozempic and she said there were none.

Hi

I’ve just come off Ozempic and I have to talk about what a wonder drug it is.
I started off on the 0.25mg dose and was expecting Metformin symptoms like nausea and Diarrhoea but I was extremely lucky that I only got a slight nausea. I did on some days get heartburn but a little bit of Gaviscon stopped it. I moved up to the 0.5 MG dosage and didn’t experience any problems. And then finally moved up to the 1MG and didn’t experience any problems. The only issue that I had was remembering to take it because you only take it once a week so set an alarm that will remind you when to take it. I lost 9 kg on it but since coming back to insulin I’ve put the weight back on. So it’s extremely good for weight loss and my blood sugar control was excellent. I stopped taking insulin and was only on a low dose of Metformin for its cardiovascular benefits.
There has been issues with awesome pics been linked to issues so please make sure that you always go for your eye tests and wear sunglasses.
I’ve unfortunately had to come off as I would like to try for a baby and you need to be off it for six months before trying.
Good luck!
Sooo glad it worked for you....
