I have been following Dr Bernstein's diet for three weeks and this is the first time I am hungry after a meal.
What can I do with this hunger without eating carbs?
Did you experience hunger too?

cheese/nuts/cream/coconut

Think we have all been there. Cheese is a good filler on it's own or wrapped in some ham, cucumber, celery filled with peanut butter or Philly cheese, nuts , pate` chicken slices, sugar free jelly,a few berries with cream.no doubt somebody will come up with more, just can't think more at the moment

Yes I get this sometimes... usually have about 30-50g of cheese or a couple of tablespoons of thickened cream (yum!)

Apparently when the fat coats the roof of your mouth, that sends a signal to your brain that you have enough calories on board and don't need to feel hungry.

to be honest...in the beginning, to get over cravings...i had a tablespoon of salted grass fed butter e.g. Kerrygold, letting it melt in my mouth and waited for 20 minutes. if i was still itching, i had another tablespoon..and distracted myself with other things. that normally did the trick.
actually, i still do that these days. :)

not often. once i kicked the carb/sugar habit i was fine..takes 4-6 weeks for most people.
after that, it is an issue of "triggers"..i have this nasty habit of binge snacking when watching tv. & i watch a lot of tv. i now watch much less tv.:) once you kick the biochemical craving, you need to look at your behaviors that trigger eating & try to modify that. hope that helps..

Boiled eggs with mayo a bit more bacon, coconut oil in coffee, bits of chicken with mayo and curry powder, thought I would add a few.

I've been eating low carb and high fat I still eat like a pig think it's just habit but make sure it's low carb and I never put much weight on

Try snacking on almonds. They are a good choice for diabetics, you will not gain any weight and they also keep your cholesterol down.

Like others, I've found a small intense hit of a high fat snack usually settles me down - a few berries and a spoonful of double cream always works, or I melt a couple of squares of 80% chocolate in my mouth and have a cup of tea.

Yes - all of the above for me too :). I eat pistachios while binge watching tv (thinking of msmi's post above) - great lchf substitute for popcorn. Almonds are great, and brazil nuts marvellous for zinc deficient countries (like nz). Camembert or brie, as a good fatty probiotic tummy filler works a treat - especially if you add some sauerkraut or kimchi to the plate.

Almond butter on celery sticks - nutritious, filling (it takes ages to eat cos of the chewy celery fibre), and the almond butter is delicious. That's my stand-by for hungry moments. (And I experience hunger keenly and a lot.)

A mug of herbal tea eg Traditional Medicines organic Throat Coat Tea (Lemon Echinea) or Yogi Tea organic Stomach Ease.
A couple of squares of Lindt Excellence 90% cocoa chocolate or half a 200g pot of Rachel's organic luxury creme fraiche or a good pig out on Rodda clotted cream.

Lucky you!! :) pistachios & cashew nuts are delicious. unfortunately for me, i pay the piper (with interest) every time i indulge..so many great ideas, this thread is making me hungry..

I don't think I was every hungry these last few years. I was craving carbs, which is different, and the more I ate, the more I craved afterwards. Now I don't, but I'm "peckish". Something to do with things in the mouth? Hello, mummy?
Anyway, as above, all good ideas and I also eat loads including fat but don't put on weight.

Is this in terms of BG levels? Or fat?:). (I have to put in a smiley when being so bold as to ask someone about their bodily fat levels!)

I certainly don't lose any weight eating a bunch of nuts, for sure, ditto the almond butter. Ditto the brie! But I love not worrying about losing weight - I just concentrate on the BG levels on LCHF, and keep as active as I can. But it's all about our individual metabolisms isn't it? Mind you I say this on the upper end of normal BMI... (If I don't walk a very long mile and do ab exercises and lift weights I gain weight rapidly, and my BG levels rise too.) (I have had recent experience to support this.)

I experience hunger often, as Herr Svea would vouch for (and everyone I have ever lived with would ;)) - so quelling hunger is hugely important to me! As I am truly miserable when hungry. And I do think eating moderate-high levels of fat helps for diabetics like me. The only thing that doesn't affect our blood glucose level! And fills us up. I can't tell you how relieved I was to finally get that idea into my skull! Popcorn = lots of carbs. Pistachios = lots of calories and fat! Latter doesn't screw my poor pancreas and liver around. (I hope!) (Gee I truly hope - else some other thing in my body will start to pack up! Please be right LCHF-ers!)
