Hello, I am a female from India. I am 17...Just a few days back my parents(both having diabetes) had a blood test and I too thought of having a test for the first time for diabetes.

I had no symptoms whatsoever till date but to my surprise I got fasting blood glucose of 189 and Hba1c = 9% and avereage(mean) Hb1 (a+b+c) = 11.6 % (242) as well as cholestrol and LDL were slightly high.

I admit that my lifestayle was not very active, I am obese 33.3 BMI....I ate lots of sweets Ice cream soft drinks and water with Ice frequently and intake was especially more in past 3 months due to my summer vacations.

I read many articles and most people say that the main reason is being obese. My father was diagonosed at 45 age(grandfather too had it) but mother was diagonosed at 30(thats due to pregnancy complecations).
My elder brother is 25 and his glucose is 69 and cholestrol ok.(is he on the verge too ?)

I have some questions :
If i reduce weight from 86kgs(current) to 70-72 and do not take medication...can I get back to normal range ?
I fear taking medicines as once it starts then there is no end to it...

Is it possible that I ate sweets a day before the test as well as last 3 months too much sweets were consumed...that is why the levels were so high ?

Vitamin D is also low according to the test...can this be the problem ?

I was suffering from cold when i gave blood to test...can this be the reason ?

What is life expectancy and which type it is type 1 or 2 ?

WHY Diabetes SO EARLY !?!?!?

I am going for another test soon...please advise..I am tensed :(

first of all dont take tension its not good for diabetes , i was diagnosed at the age of 25, my both parents were nondiabetic . i asked the same question which u have asked but could find the answer yet. i must say diabetes is like ur friend for life time if u do exercise n diet control the friend(diabetes) will be happy. if u dont its gets angry. you can live whole life normally just change iflifestyle and view towards life.

Hi. At age 17 it is unusual to have Type 2 diabetes but as you say you are overweight so may be very insulin resistant. I would certainly try to reduce your weight at least to 70Kg and if possible nearer to 60Kg. The best way to do this is exercise and a big reduction in carbs. Weight reduction may be enough to bring your blood sugar back to normal with no meds needed. It is always possible that you have late onset Type 1 diabetes in which case your sugars will continue to rise and insulin will be needed, but lets hope it's the more common T2 and diet is the key. With well-managed blood sugar your life expectancy should be near normal. If you took the correct Hba1C test, then eating sweets just before would have no effect as the HBa1C measures your average sugar over the previous 3 months

Lay off the sugar and sweet things. Reduce the starchy food you eat, potato, yam, rice, corn, etc and the ice cream. If your BG levels drop, try to adhere to this diet, not a fan, or try to reduce your meal servings, eating till no longer hungry rather than full. I can offer no further advice, but through doing just this I've lost nearly 3 stone. I'm 14 st and 6'2" and have a BMI of just under 26. Good luck!

Mart.
