I am new to this.

Thank you all for your replies. As explained the diary I posted was what I was doing on my diet to lose weight and was also a day where I know I had high carb treats also. I realise I need to change what I have been doing and a guide of how many carbs to eat per day is what I was hoping for and, Enclave, thank you for giving me an idea of what you consume. I have now amended my diary levels for carbs, proteins and fats to what I hope is a more favourable level and see how this goes over the next week and revise again if I still have a problem with my BG levels.
I will no doubt be back with more questions but for now I think I have enough info to help me work things out more sensibly. I am fortunately at the lower end of pre-diabetic and with the tweeks to my diet I am hoping to get back into non-diabetic range.
Thanks again.

Your quite right but I'm luck I have 3 slices of WHOLEGRAIN BREAD a day and my BG hardy moves so as said many times in the past everyone is different
different indeed, my bg would sky rocket on three slices of any kind of bread. On the other hand this doesn't seem so unusual, given I'm diabetic and bread is mostly starch. Oh, and prefer to keep bg normal at all times, if possible.
As has been said - we are all different. I can have 2 slices of seeded bread with little affect but a wholemeal Thin, although less carbs, will send my BS sky high!

when I was first diagnosed I was told to eat at least 4 slices of bread per day.....:(

Similar for me. I can have a slice of Hovis Seed Sensations Wholemeal providing it is with a fair amount of fat such as toasted with 2 eggs and cheese, but not a slice of ordinary wholemeal, even if the carb amounts are similar.

Welcome @rose25 - Pretty new to this myself but have adopted a lot of practices recommended by more experienced members here.
My main 2 have been to get a testing kit and use it before and after each meal as well as reducing my carb intake.
I can now check for myself to see what foods and in what proportions effect my own blood. For instance, a single slice of white bread drives it above 8 but half of a Lidl high protein roll is fine. They are well worth trying and there is a picture of them here: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/lidl-high-protein-low-carb-rolls.77986/page-5#post-873342

Hi and welcome to the forum. There is a lot of great advice that has already been posted for you. All I really wanted to add was it might be a good idea for you to look around the low carb forum. As you are only pre diabetic at this stage you might not have to be as drastic with the carb cutting as some of us are but it would be a good idea to start cutting some of the carbs from each meal to at the least get it below 100gr of carbs per day for a start and then reducing further if need be.

Thank you all for the advice. I have already adopted a few changes. I use My Fitness Pal to monitor my food intake and have adjusted the carb level to 100g per day, which is almost half of the amount allowed before, which was the amount that MFP included within the calorie allowance.
I am monitoring my BG occasionally, not necessarily before and after every meal, but in just 2 days I am pleased to say that my BG has dropped into the green range rather than red on the little app that I am using to record it. So I am pleased with that and my weight has already dropped by a couple of pounds too. I am now feeling more positive that I can do this and hopefully I won't need to reduce my carbs any more than I already have.
I will take a look at the low carb forum because I am sure there will be a wealth of info there that will help me too.
Thanks again.
