Pizza (makes my BG go through the roof), Pasta & potatoes.
Don't know what's up with me but I have been feeling hungry for about a week and yesterday and today have been eating like the proverbial pig.

Nothing that bad or high in sugar or carbs - just can't seem to feel full at all. Blood sugars remain great at around 5.5 with fasting at 5.2.

Its just that i don't want to start piling on the weight as i am doing so well on the diet. I'm sure its something dieters go through from time to time. I am eating between 1800 and 2000 cals and 60 to 80 grams carbs.

My BMI is 27 down from 36 so nearly 'normal'

I'm wondering if its that its been cold and rainy for a few days - its freezing in the office and i was 'told off' for plugging an electric heater in under my desk today. Anybody any ideas to stop the hunger??

try drinking water with your meals. i was told to brush my teeth when feeling hungry something to do with the saliva. hard boiled eggs also suppress the hunger for a while pork scratchings, pepperami brazil nuts but be aware of the fat content if you are trying to lose weight. im lucky im trying to keep my weight up after losing so much, i cant get off these polish sausages kabanos they are lovely and no carbs to write about.

A glass of water pre meals is good. Often hunger is actually thirst. If you hate plain water try half glass plain half glass fizzy water I like the taste of ASDA's own. Try adding slices of fresh lemon or lime if you need a bit of flavour or if well stocked garden add lemon balm leaves.

You can make porridge with just water, porridge oats very filling. Try sweet and sour with fresh lemon juice and agave cactus nectar to sweeten.

An apple sliced into pieces with a few almonds (10 max).

Check out zest for life website lots of good Glycaemic Load suggestions there. Important to have snacks between breakfast and lunch and then also between lunch and supper. Suggestions are two rough oatcakes topped with either cottage cheese, humous, no sugar added peanut butter. Eat plenty of non starchy veg.

Hope this helps. :P

I drink fennel tea which is supposed to be good for the digestion and an appetite suppressent.
I don't know if those claims can be backed up at all but I rather like the taste! I think it does take the edge off my hunger.

Sorry I meant zest 4 life website it features the GL diet Patrick Holford which has helped me to lose weight with foods that keep your blood sugar even. I can't recommend it highly enough. Not part of his organisation or anything but I was invited and went to 6 free seminars teaching the methods best 12 hours I have spent to help learning to eat for health.

Anyway, I have peripheral neuropathy problems in my feet and have to keep changing meds to help my brain screen out the nerve pain messages. When I follow the Low GL diet guidelines I do get less problems and it brought down my cholesterol levels so my GP is now recommending it to other patients. Do check it out as it ensures you don't feel hungry. :P

I have read that having soup before your meal is a good appetite suppressant. You'd have to make sure the type of soup you eat suits the rest of your diet lifestyle. I like low carbing and find even a lot of the bought soups are reasonably low in carbs. Home made is best of course! :D

Hi all,

Thanks for the tips. It struck home with me what I have been doing different these past few days - not drinking a large glass of water with my meals.

I am back on the water and things going a little better.

Thanks again

Carl

I often brush my teeth if I feel like picking... It seems to help. Not such a bad thing seeing as I can't get an nhs dentist.

Horses are an excellent basis for a low carb diet. My son has several for sale (as riding ponies) but if you are interested ....

Thanks Ian,

That's a great offer and i'd never really thought how good the nutritional contents were until you said.

Maybe I'll start with a pony and work my way up.

Cheers

Carl
