Honestly,Seeing the consultant IS a positive thing! :) They can give you loads more information about YOUR particular Diabetes AND give you further tests that a GP may be unable to which hopefully will result in the RIGHT medication regime for YOU. It's the most productive appointment I ever had!

:)

And if thats not encouraging I don't know what is! :)

Re: I DONT UNDERSTAND?

miste i have also had my gall bladder out and im t1 diabetic !!! im doing just fine hun chin up hun xx

I have Chronic Pancreatitis as well, at the moment my pancreas is still producing insulin but, based on the pattern of damage so far, it's only a matter of time before I'm on insulin.

As I understand it, the pancreas does 3 main jobs
1) produce insulin - jabs can replace this when required
2) release enzymes to digest food (this part has already failed with me) - there are Creon capsules which you take with food to compensate
3) release glycogen when the blood sugar drops to a dangerous level, this instructs the liver to release glucose from the muscles - this is the reason a lot of people with chronic pancreatitis end up with brittle diabetes, their bodies just can't react properly in an emergency but regular testing to avoid dropping that low means that you won't miss the glycogen (insulin pumps are often used I believe)

So your "mate" was talking out of his a**e to be blunt :D , it's entirely possible to live without a gall bladder and pancreas, ok it means making the most of medical advances but it's actually quite common for people with chronic pancreatitis to not have a gall bladder as gall stones are often blamed for the pancreatitis in the first place and we all know how surgeons love to slice bits out  .

If you need to talk to others more about the pancreatitis side of things then I'd suggest you pop over to the pancreatitis uk forum (google for it  )
