I have just realised that i've forgotten to take my lantus last night. I'm on a new insulin regime from 2 injections a day to now 4 a day. Any ideas of what I should do?

First thing is check your Bg level now. Take it from there.......you may not need to do anything much at this stage. Keep monitoring your Bg and if needed Ketones.

Your PIL (Patient information leaflet) should tell you what to do in the case of a missed dose. You could also phone your Diabetes Clinic for advice.

We don't seem to have any T1's around at present.

Thanks for your advice, can't test blood till this afternoon as I ran out of strips Sunday and wasn't able to order a repeat prescription till tues. I'll see how I get on for now before calling hospital clinic.

Hope you got sorted Sarah!

Your best bet is always to speak with your diabetes team regarding matters such as this. Those that have been on MDI for a while the usual advice is to take half the dose the following morning should you forget your bed time lantus, as lantus is a 24 hour background insulin to give the full dose the following morning would mean it clashing with your dose tonight and could cause hypoglycemia, so never give the full dose the following day.

Let us know how you got on!

I rung DSN about 1.30 left a message and still waiting to be contacted. Tested bg at lunch it 13.6 just tested again it's 8.4 so I'll have normal insulin at tea and my lantus before bed.

me i am always forgetting injections my memory sucks bad time lol dont take it through the day as lantus is a night time insulin before you go to bed as far as i know it stabalises your blood sugars what i do is just make sure that i take it the following night and try my utmost to keep remembering to take it one good way of remembering is too set your mobile phones alarm clock for the times you personally take your insulin my hospital diabetic specialist nurse suggested that too me hope this helps all the best

Thanx, my DSN rang back and said I should of had 1/2 the dose of lantus the morning after forgettin it. I have a bad memory and can't remember now if I took it last night! I'm sure I'll get used to it in time.

Sarah.
As you seem forgetful why don't you rig up or obtain some sort of indicator that says:
TAKEN / NOT TAKEN with a slide cover to indicate which is relevant. Place it near where you keep the pen and re-set after a while. I have heard of members who use such a device and it has helped.

I thought as much Sarah, as I said earlier that is the standard advice given out to patients on a one-a-day basal regime.
