I Give Up

That’s it I’ve had it I give up with the whole diabetic care system in our ****** country. They say somethings available. Freestyle liberty. Then they mess everybody around. Our NHS system is so ****. It’s a shame we all didn’t have to pay for the ****** service. This way we could buy our glucose meters ourselves. I’m ashamed to be English. I’m ashamed to live in a world where only thing people are interested in is accumulation of wealth at peoples health.

@karl76uk
You have posted several times about the Libre.
I note from your profile that you are T2. Are you on insulin? As I understand Libre prescribing, only some CCGs offer it on prescription and I am not currently aware of any T2s getting it on prescription.

It is a shame you are seeing problems with the diabetes care with your team.
Whilst Libre is not available for me, my diabetes team is wonderful.

The NHS may be flawed but I still see it as a privilege to have free access to healthcare.

I can’t log into my profile page because for some reason the website doesn’t recognise me at all even though I’m signing with all the same details.

You still can can't you? I agree it's wrong that you're not getting a Libre when other T1s can, but if you wish to buy one for yourself you can, just as some T2s (and maybe T1s?) on here have done in the past. Can you transfer to another surgery where they are more helpful and understanding of your needs?

I’m sorry forum I’m just so down and depressed it should not matter if I’m T1 or T2 we all pay in to the NHS and they just muck us all around. I noticed you can get the freestyle on Medicare in the USA what a joke England is.

Hi @karl76uk It's the same for me with my trust, they are not prescribing this so I now self fund, yes it was a pain that I couldn't access but knowing I could be waiting for ages to get it was too much so now buy the sensors from Superdrug.

Easy to say try not to get annoyed but getting stressed about something like this isn't going to help your bg levels, so take a deep breath and let this go, no point getting wound up about something outside of your control.

NHS diabetes care isn't always brilliant. However the problem with Freestyle Libre is the CCGs the local clinical commissioning groups, not funding it in every area. Which is not the fault of the diabetes doctors and nurses.

It's a very unsatisfactory situation, because anyone who actually has type 1 diabetes knows perfectly well how useful it would be, but that's often the problem, that people who don't have it don't understand it.

The ones who aren't funding it will have to give in in the end, because this sort of inconsistent care is not appropriate. I think a lot of pressure is being put on them.

Until then there are ways of doing it, I think you can buy a sensor and read on a phone app, but I don't know much about that.

But don't blame the doctors this time. Next time maybe, but not this time.

Are you just seeing your GP, and not under a hospital clinic?

but have you seen how much Medicare costs?

I am sorry that you feel down and understand your frustration, but I think we are still better off here in the UK even though it can be a lottery as to who gets what.

And if the leaflet was a Tesco/DUK one it wouldn't have been much help at all!

The CCGs replaced the Primary Care Trusts, in about 2012. This webpage has a map showing the CCGs that are funding it, and those that aren't. If you can find yours you can google them, and google freestyle libre, see what decision they made, and then find the contact details on their website, and write them a stroppy letter.

https://www.diabetes.org.uk/get_involved/campaigning/flash-glucose-monitoring

More and more of them are funding it all the time, and the more that happens the more pressure is put the ones that aren't. It's only a matter of time before they all give in. It's just annoying when you are in one of the areas that is dragging their feet on this
