thats it I give up, have not lost an ounce of weight since diagnosed in early may, have done everything I can, so sick of eating salads, I think I might as well go back to what I was eating because all this isn't doing me any good at all, plus my BG results seem to be gettting higher instead of lower, :x will make an appointment to see the doc because of how I am feeling, tiredness is really getting to me now. I wish I had never seen the doctor to begin with, now all I can think of is diabeties and what I can and can't eat, I have given up everything I really enjoyed including smoking, just might go and buy a huge bar of chocolate and be happy for once if only for a short time. It doesn't help when one's son tells you "mum your nearly 60, your metabolism has slowed down, what do you expect" well I tell you what i expect, I expect to have lost a least a couple of kilos after trying so hard. Sorry rant over and before you all start shouting at me I am not going to eat chocolate even though I do feel like it, I promise.

Hi,

What a rubbish time you seem to have had... I can understand how that must be super-frustrating!

Let us know if there is any advice you want once you're ready to look at it again. And share some of your diet if you feel like it.

However if your control is really going worse when it should be getting better, maybe it is time to try some other form of meds? It's okay to be stubborn, but sometimes that just won't do it on it's own.

I hope you feel better again soon - sometimes life just doesn't seem fair, huh?

Big hug from me, and best of luck.

Hi,

I wonder if the answer is in your signature, statins?

If you google weight gain and tiredness for users of statins, there is a connection and some people will experience this. There are also many people who can take statins with no side effects.

If statins can cause elevated blood sugars and a diagnosis of diabetes in non diabetics then may be they are also responsible for raising your blood sugars.

I would go back to your G.P. and ask to stop the statins and see what happens. You can always go back on them if they are not the culprit.

As to the chocolate, get some dark chocolate, high in cocoa solids and ration yourself to a couple of squares after your main meal. Might stop the craving.

Hi. If your Hba1c is still around 6 that's not too bad so no need to worry too much. Your Metformin could be increased to 2000mg if needed plus other meds could be added as well to help with your sugars. Yes, statins can be a problem so discuss with your GP and perhaps try stopping them for a while to check the effect. I'm not sure what sort of diet you are on, but although low-carbing is important you can still have proteins, cheese, veg, fruit etc and low-GI carbs fairly freely. I have Green & Blacks 85% dark chocolate which is very low carb compared with the sugar-laden chocolate below 85%.

It might also be worth asking your GP to look at your thyroid function. It can be nigh on impossible to lose weight with an untreated under active thyroid. It can also make you very tired.

You can find some of the main symptoms here;

I agree with that sweetheart.............Just something else to consider.

Hope you get some answers and help,

Best wishes,

You're having a really tough time Alison *hugs*

There are some great suggestions here in this thread.

As Mileana says, could you share your diet with us and perhaps we can give you some pointers to help you along the way.

Children can be really annoying without meaning to at times. My son, when he heard that I'd had a stroke and couldn't drive asked if he could have my car for which he was verbally smacked by me.

Don't give up. You're among friends here who really want to help you

hi, :)
Giving up smoking is a very difficult, but essential for better health. Weight gain usually follows when you stop because we eat more to compensate the addiction. :?
Therefore you are fighting more than one battle. Also when our children become adults that show concern and nicely treat us as being a little stupid. :P
However when you said " I PROMISE " reveals you are not going to give up.
You must take your own advise at the same time learning from what others say.
There has got to be something positive in what is happening to your health.
Also ranting on is more than good for you, as people like myself are glad to see we are not the only ones out there.
(you must win and it does get better after these early times until your blood cycle accepts good change )

Good luck Roy

Alison you rant on as much as you like, it will do you more good than harm, we all need to let the safety valve go off at times, especially when frustration kicks in. Giving up the weed is very hard, trust me; I am now 3 years down the line and even now I get the urge occasionally, I use my E-Cig still ! all be it, with as little or no nicotine in it to keep me going, but it will ease with time and the benefits are well worth it. you say sick of salads is that mostly what you are eating, as if you are not getting enough fat and proteins your body does tend to go in limp mode and will try and retain fat for it's reserves as long as possible, try upping the intake of these, also exercise try and keep it moderate during weight loss stage, I notice if I go mad my weight loss falters, and does not start again until I ease off with the exercise a bit. And lastly stop kicking yourself, I say to myself, it took me years to cause me Diabetes, I sure ain't going to fix thing's in a few weeks or months, One day at a time and keep chipping away, you'll get there. :D :D
