I hate my new meter

I used to use freestyle mini for many years and was forced to change to the Freestyle Freedom Lite meter. I absolutely hate it. This meter is much bigger than older meter and has reduced the number of features I used on a regular basis (it doesn’t allow you to test and read results in poor light). Not only that but it is much too masculine looking for my tastes. I miss the classy sleek looking meter I used to use. I’ve been diabetic for 22 years and a firm favourite of Abbott products until they focused too much on electronic additions to the look and feel of their meters. The meter is an extension of the diabetic why should we lower our self-esteem by retreating into the older days when my first meter was the size of a brick. Like a mobile phone I prefer my meter to be smaller and more discreet.

Why were you forced to change?

All the meter manufacturers fall over themselves to give meters away to type 1's knowing that they test multiple times a day, if you ring the Abbott helpline up I'm sure they'll send you a Freestyle Mini out free of charge.

I've got two Freedom Lites. They are the only meters I've ever used, but I love them. Mind you, as a type 2 I don't need anything fancy. IMO the best feature is being able to turn off that irritating beep when the result is in. I find them very consistent.

Unfortunately I'm thinking of switching to the Codefree, because of the cost of the strips. :(

My surgery changed us all over to the MyLife Pura as it has cheaper strips. It's not well-known but is nice and small. Simple to use and you can ask for a PC lead

i just got a new meter, bayer contour next usb, go to their website and enter for a free meter. It has a colour display, good for night time readings, u can log carbs and insulin, and u can plug it into ur laptop to view or even send the results to ur diabetic team directly, very simple, i was using the glucomen lx plus meter before, the test strips were a straight swap on my prescription but will still use my lx plus for ketone testing but couldn't be happier with the contour next, great finger pricker too.
