Hi Guys,
I hope somebody of you can help me with a recent experienced problem. Since last Sunday night I had diarrhoea, vomit and high fever. After 24 hours the episodes of vomit disappeared within nausea using antiemetic pills every 8 hours. Diarrhoea still there since last night when I got severe dehydration and went to A&E. Of course I drunk plenty of fluids, used immodium paracetamol etc. Well in the hospital they were kindly and inject me a big amount of paracetamol and 1L of liquids and they told me to no get metformine until the Diarrhoea is finish.

Well now what I have to eat Guys? Powerade for sure and what eat I feel hungry but don't know what food eat. Any advise?

Thanks
Tony

Have you been taking Metformin? If so then you aren't alone with having a bad reaction to it. You can get a slow release version which is generally easier on the tum.

Personally, I wouldn't bother eating at all until I felt well enough and all the symptoms have gone. There is nothing worse than trying to eat as when you feel it and off your food.

However, if you are on any meds you should really contact your doctor for advice.

Maybe a little chicken soup. If you are that poorly you won't fancy much else.

Thank you Guys, yes I get Metformine 3g per day divided by 1g breakfast,1g after lunch and 1g after dinner. So the doctor told me to not to take metformin until the diarrhea does not disappear permanently and eat normally. But I think I will resist the hunger pains until the diarrhea is gone. I just tried to eat two slices of ham, and I went to the toilet immediately. Perhaps a chicken broth could go really well.
Thanks a lot again for your help

That is a very high dose of met. Try asking your doctor o give you slow release Metformin, it's a bit kinder on the stomach.

Thank you Chook, well...before was 3000mg of metformine 60mg of Glicazide and for 4 months Victoza but now only metformine and I will start a low carb diet because the BS is always 10-11 after meals.

Chicken noodle soup! You know, the really thin kind, high in salts that you may have lost and quite palatable after illness. A doctor advised me once, when I had not eaten for a while and it is kind of comforting easy to digest as it is mostly water but contains the essential salts you may have lost. I really hope you feel better soon, never fun when you have the big D to think about!

I'd suggest a period of drinking water - boil it and allow it to cool so it is just warm as that will be beneficial to your stomach.
It is what was suggested when the dreaded winter vomiting sickness was raging around the office where I worked. Those who tried to eat anything were often the ones getting recurrent bouts of it.
Do not drink anything sugary - if it was a bug causing it then it will love the stuff and organise another party to take advantage of it.

Hi Resurgam,
interesting case. Unfortunately in my particular case I ate some contaminated food in a restaurant outside and that was the cause. Now I have the BS at 16.8 uffff....and I ate nothing. Thank you everybody for your support...as I can see I am not alone :-)

If it's food poisoning then just don't eat and drink plenty of water with a little bit if salt in it until it's gone.

I would be careful with the Powerade - like all those drinks it can be very high in sugar...

Chicken soup is my Go To when ill. It gives fluids, tastes nice, and so long as you make it yourself, it isn't jam packed with carbs. You can also add progressively more meat and veg as you feel better, until your body can handle proper food again.

I'm not a fan of the BRAT diet after a tummy upset. Always used to make me feel far worse because of the endless blood glucose swings.

Well I added all your suggestions and seems going better:
Today no metformine
Eating only chicken soup
Stopped Powerade
500ml of water with salt ready in case I feel again with the mouth completely dry.
Diarrhoea seems going better even has a green color
Let see what happen next.
