If we can choose what we are called I still think sparkly should be in there. Or unicorn. On the other hand I am fine with diabetic. Don't care really. Makes no difference to my control.

I have more important things to stress about.

I rarely mention it. When i do, if it is to a HCP i would hope they understand the condition well enough for minor variations in phrasing to be unimportant. If i am speaking to non-Ds, then i'm impressed if they even know what a diabetic actually is. They usually don't.
