Hi I am a type one diabetic for 25 years I am 49 years old. I have recently joined a health club . As I feel I need to get some extra excercise. I do a fair bit of walking in my job. Any advise what exercises are more effective etc i am not wanting to loose a lot of weight just more to get fit. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read .

If you want to get fitter, I would suggest aerobic training and resistence training. I don't know how often you atten the gym or how long for but I would alternate between cycling, cross trainer or rower for aerobic/cardio. These are all low impact and will not stress joints etc compared with running.
I would then do some weight training for strength. Lowish weight, more reps.
However, whatever you decide to do will be of benefit. Good luck.

Us too! I used to belong years ago but have a slipped disc. I cannot do much as I also have arthritis in my knees but we are using the pool and jacuzzi etc and had the gym induction yesterday. I am going to try to cycle, row and walk on the treadmill, OH is able to use all of the equipment but I daren't lift weights.

We had an MOT as part of the package, it was hilarious because apparently I have a VO2 level that puts me in the "elite" category..... he assures me it is an accurate reading..... go figure!

Pole Dancing is the best workout I have ever done. I do Ballet Pole run by an ex ballerina.

My BG will go high if I exercise on an empty stomach but readings are better the day after.

That's interesting re: having high BG levels exercising on an empty stomach LW. Simple exercises can be done free, like country walks, canals, dog walking, etc and light weights at home. I don't think many of the blokes on here would be up for pole-dancing, lol. Whatever works for you, eh. I bust my upper-arm and shoulder a year ago and it has healed wrong and clicks. The solution? Cut through muscle tissue and saw off some bone or have it rebroken and pinned :( or leave it as is, which I'll probably end up with. Good luck.

Yep, my BG will go up about 5mmol if exercising on an empty stomach.

Guys pole dance (1:22) :3

I would love to have a pole of my own at home. I used to do gymnastics etc but even jogging hurts my joints too much. On the pole I can take the weight off my knees and becoming more flexible helps me feel less stiff but of course I can do the warmups on my living room carpet for free.

Swimming is a good one for creaky people like me

Just started back swimming. 1/2 mile (32 lengths) 3x per week . Will start putting distance in the next week or 2. It good exercise but very boring . I stopped last year when I lost all get up and go and felt tired all the time. I was swimming 2/3 to 1 mile 3 to 5 times a week and was 14.1/2 stone winthh in a few months id put about 6 stone on was still knackard and perpetually hungry. And felt terible . Had septic tonsillitis for over 2 month's (still carried on working 60 hours a week) all came to a head over the last 2 months after loosing weight and urinating , numb fingers and down the sides of my hand i was diagnosed type 2 a fortnight ago. Since then I have gone ultra low carbs usually under 10/15 grams a day and exercising pluss metformin . Myy bgs aren't quite there yet buy I feel the best I have in 18months. And have of course started swimming again which is one of the only exercises I can do as I had a bad accident several years ago and had to have knees reconstructed which then has a knock on effect on other things. So if the only way I can keep fit is swimming that is what I'll have to do. But its far better than feeling the way I did.
Good luck mate
