I just don't understand ....!?

Please can someone enlighten me - I'm type II, on steroids, treatment for low immunity, metformin, glycazide etc., but however I try I can't seem to get my readings to be 'right'. They seem to have very little relevance to what I've been eating. I've cut down portions, always 5 fruit/veg a day (which I like anyway). But still I end up with high readings. I am just so confused. Oh, and I'm following the carbohydrate scheme ... Any advice??

I would discuss it with your doctor but I think that the steroids will be causing your numbers to be high, especially if you have been on them for while.

As Sue says Steroids. Speak to your doctor, or perhaps your pharmacist.

Thanks for replies - but I have already spoken with my specialist and had my steroid dosage adjusted. Still seem to have little or no control. I suppose there's no easy answer for anyone as we're all individuals - I guess I'll have to just keep on cutting down on portion sizes, and crossing my fingers! Don't really want to end up on insulin - although at this rate I can see it being 'offered' as a suitable alternative.

Would reducing carbs a little bit more be an option? And yes, we are individuals. Just a thought though, one of the women in my self help group is taking steroids and found it hard to control her bg, she has now taken ALA and benfotiamine since January, she also added cinnamon, cayenne and fenugreek to her diet, she is also eating nuts and flaxseeds but cant stomach the flaxseed oil and has recently reported that something is working alright, her readings are much lower.

But please dont just go taking any of these supplements, discuss with your doctor or pharmacist as even with over the counter remedies it is still possible for drug interactions, etc.

All the best

Karen
