I made a poor decision on friday and its changed my baseline sugar levels drasticaly :¬(

Hi all thanks for all the info :¬)

Today is a lot better Phew! 6.1 on waking (horizontal) and 7.1 after getting up (vertical)
As you have all said I believe it will slowly get back down to my normal 5-6 base line :¬)

I dont actually need to eat Chinese and I assumed it would just spike me quite badly, but I didn't expect it to do what it did hehe
I wont be eating it again that's for sure :¬)

Thanks

4 days in and I have a good sensor this time :¬) its almost the same as the blood prick tests (Libre sticks)
I am now sure the placement of the sensor is key as I now know I have hit underlying anatomy (hit muscle blood vessels etc) im sure this causes my "Bad" sensors

In terms of sensor placement; are you following the product guidance? Are you placing it on an area with subcutaneous fat?

I'm sorry. I'm not trying to ask very personal questions, but having had a fair number of sensors reading well off the mark, I've been trying, for ages, to work out if my skinny, little, wiry frame is at least part of the equation. (I paint such a lovely picture of myself :) )

I was following the placement as in abbots videos and do it exactly on the side of the arm the lady does
but in my anatomy I believe I have muscle there and I have broken a few sensors (I previously thought it was bad sensors)
Last sensor when I had to remove it underneath was a lot of blood and I had a bruise for 4 days

I also believe I have hit other weird bits of body in this same area like directly hitting a vein(capillary) or something

So ... now im trying to find flabbier location on my arm in the same general area this one is spot on hope I finally have the idea time will tell

I still get the 1-2mmol increase when changing from horizontal to vertical but guess that's the way my body fluid rolls hehe

I also do get sensors that follow the blood trend but ate 1-2 mmol lower or 1-2 mmol higher
Im guessing that not interstitial fluid reports the same. get good areas and bad areas

But what do I know hehe

There was probably monosodium glutamate in nearly everything too.
that does terrible things to me for days.
The first sign is a raging thirst, then my bg goes screwy.

Drink plenty, go back to normal eating, and wait it out.
Don't worrit - this too shall pass! ;)

Not harmful?

No doubt there will be links suggesting the opposite but glutamine is a natural part of the body. An amino acid.

Note how I was speaking from personal experience?

There have had similar 'not harmful' comments previously on the forum about artificial sweeteners, MSG and various food additives. :)
To those of us 'blessed' with sensitivities to these things, all the supposedly 'scientific' evidence in the world is never going to invalidate our personal experiences.

It gets rather tiresome when someone who doesn't have these reactions to foods and additives goes around claiming that people like myself
- don't have such reactions
- it is in our imagination
- we are scaremongering

I have an open offer to anyone: let's swap bodies for a day or two. they can eat aspartame, caffiene, MSG and various food colourings and then enjoy the effects. They will be a convert to my way of thinking within 24 hours! :D

I'll pass if you don't mind. That concoction would also make me very poorly indeed. I think the worst headache I ever had was after a Chinese meal - probably the last one I ever ate, about 30 years ago. I could hardly move for about 3 days. I'm okay with caffeine, but my sister is very poorly with it - I even keep a separate cafetiere for her. I have to choose foods like pork scratchings carefully as many of the brands use MSG for flavouring.

Yes indeed to the pork scratchings! Have you tried Angelsey Posh ones? Best I have yet found.

Interestingly, I seem to be OK with naturally occurring Umami flavours (foods which contain naturally occurring flavour enhancers similar to MSG) such as parmesan, olives, shitaki, anchovies, etc. It is just the mass produced ones that are an issue.

sorry folks - end of derailment!

Though you was speaking from personal experience you are in essence influencing others by your post? That is why you you made the post? If the MSG was part of a rice dish then a reaction would be bad. It all depends which food was eaten?

Not seen those, they look good. I can't remember the brand I get but I've only seen them in Asda and they're just pork and salt. I wish you hadn't mentioned anchovies, I'm going to have to raid my cupboards and see if I have a tin to pop some on my spinach salad. I crave salt and flavour far more than sweet these days.

As you were!

I am behind you 100% on this. People who don't have issues simply don't 'get it' and it gets very old indeed. I don't believe those ingredients have any good nutritional value anyway

Not to panic @madusmacus you are experiencing what many of us experience when we eat a carb loaded meal. Personally, if I ate a meal like that it would take about 8 to 10days before my bs levels returned to normal. I found this out when I ate bread rolls two days running for lunch and also ate some of my husband's veg curry same day (sauce high carb + rice!) That's all it took for me. Don't despair, keep low carbing and your levels will eventually return to normal. Good luck!
Wow, that's good to know.
Each time i get my BG down from the early's 10-13 down to 6-7 mmo/L i sort of give meyself a break & go back on eating a we-bit more carbs.
Will power seem to be lacking & that sort of make life a drag at meal times
What's your thoughts on this?

I'm sorry @DominicLaiYew I think what we would like is a magic answer :) but unfortunately since we have diabetes we have to keep up the lower carb eating for good. I also find if I miss out my usual exercise it affects my BG levels that day. The good news is we DO have a method of eating and living that keeps us well Good luck my friend

How do you exercise? I ask as I had a high the other week after a pasty, more an experiment and the result predictable, but after a 45 minute hard cardio session it was back in the normal range. I am new to this but I have found for me excess food can be worked off rather than stopping my usual routing. Just a different view point on the subject. Also, forgive yourself the once in a while indulgences. they make life worth while, but you may have to work them off!
I am the opposite, exercise pushes my BG up
