Hi and welcome. I developed type 1 diabetes almost 4 years ago. It was a big shock, no one in my family is diabetic either. I know what you mean I often feel no one understands and I often feel I have to keep explaining the same thing which makes me think they are not really listening. It can be very hard but I find a lot of support and information on this site. Are you on medication and do you eat low carb?

Greetings, you've come to the right place & taken the first step.
Can I ask if your T1 or T2 & what your last A1c was, then we'll go from there.

I am - or was a plain ordinary type 2, and by 6 months after diagnosis I was seeing normal numbers and my Hba1c was 41 - so the diabetes was pretty much irrelevant by then. It was really easy. I just ate low carb, and still do 5 years on - not a problem.
Is there something specific which you find impossible to do?

Welcome @Cabrinil2018
Looks like you have come to realise what everyone with diabetes eventually does. It's your diabetes, you have to find a way to be healthy and enjoy your life.
The people around you no matter how caring they are don't have diabetes, they don't understand what you are going through or the daily struggles you have.
Even most of the health care professionals I've come across seem to get their knowledge from the daily newspapers, their advice especially on a suitable T2 diet is often misleading and usually wrong
That's why this forum is so valuable, we have all been where you are now, faced the same fears and problems. If we can help with advice or suggestions we will, if we can't come up with any useful advice we will always listen and understand.

Diabetes.
Well, you're not alone. There are many people out there with diabetes.

It's really a case of just eating well and being healthy with exercise. Good thing is in this day and age is that there are many different food options for diabetics out there. If you enjoy baking or cooking, you can also experiment with all different foods and make the likes of healthy muffins, breads, cakes, chocolates. I guarantee that there is a low-carb version of most high-carb foods these days.

Just enjoy your life as there is no point worrying about the unknowns and the this and that's that may or may not ever happen.

You said that you have been ok for a while. Does that mean you have had your blood glucose under control but have found it more difficult to cope recently? What does a usual day's eating look like? I
As a community there are many people here, myself included, who have been through the denial, frustration and confusion that you may feel. We have supported one another in learning and adjusting our diets and lifestyles so that we can be mentally and physically healthy and get back to enjoying life.

Hello, I was diagnosed T2 last March and like you I felt very alone. It's taken me a year to adjust, not just to the diet but the diagnosis. I'm still a little in denial, as to why i'm diabetic. I'm getting better at baking keto cakes, i've tried lots of low carb foods, some ok some not. I'm still not totally under control, last hbac1 62. And when I get a hight blood sugar reading, I get down still. Aerobic exercise 20 mins helps. This site has been very supportive, otherwise i'd have no one to relate to. I hope you feel a bit better?

No need to torture yourself with "why" because we all have health problems that are not our "fault". We who are diabetic didn't cause our diabetes. We are not to blame. We have a physical malfunction and so must deal with it. The perfect body does not exist. All those people we see around us who aren't diabetic have or have had or will have their health problems too.

We have this Board - the most wonderful resource. Everyone is here for us and we are here for everyone.
