Okay, so I've been living with type 1 for 7 years and now recently my levels have started to just be high all the time, and I've become really frustrated, I keep pulling my hair and stuff and I just don't want to do anything anymore, like I know I can't just turn my diabetes off, but I have no diabetic friends and they don't understand what it feels like. What do I do?

have you an infection or cold etc these can trigger high blood sugar levels ?
Well my levels are high because I haven't been feeling great mentally recently and it's kinda been rough, and I haven't been taking care of it enough and now because I haven't exactly been taking care of it, I'm just even more annoyed and stressed. It's kind of my own fault to be honest though.

Having diabetes and feeling burnt out is never your own fault!
Do you have any thoughts on what can help you finding your way into managing your diabetes again. What can we help you with?

Diabetes is a full time illness and most people find it hard sometimes (I certainly do). That's not your fault and there should be no shame in admitting that you are having a difficult time.

What do I do?
You've taken the first step by posting on a diabetes forum for help. We're slightly limited on what we can say (no specific dosing advice) but many folk here have been in your position and we can give you moral support and maybe some tips.

Can I ask what pump you are using? (I'm on a tandem and while it automates a lot for me I still have to manually input my basal rates, which can change over time.)

Are you able to contact your pump clinic for advice? They will be very used to diabetics with burn out and should be able to help you with some of your issues. If you aren't confident to make pump adjustments yourself then they are your first port of call, though we can give you links to basal rate testing, if that helps.

Once more welcome. We are here to listen to you.

I'm on the tandem too, but recently the cannula has been leaking a lot, and I think that's what's really irritated me. My time in range is only 54% and I was hoping for it to be higher but I'm not exactly sure how to manage it in other ways. (As in meal planning, exercise, ect) My dexcom has also been failing a lot recently too, but that might be because I have the G7?

OK, I'm also on the tandem and G7. Have you looked at changing your basal rates at all. My TIR goes way done if I'm not taking enough basal . I have rates with names like
START (what the dietician gave me a year ago)
HI05 (5% more basal)
HI10 etc

If my basal rate is too low for my insulin needs the tandem just keeps me running high, specially at night.

As regards the cannula leaking (that sounds like a big pain) which cannula are you using?

Are you able to email or make an appointment with your pump team?

I also do manual corrections with my tandem once my bg has gone over 10 (and isn't coming down) because I become more insulin resistant when I'm over 10mmol/L and the pump algorithm assumes it's still the same as when I'm at 7mmol/L. (I stress this is my personal experience only, not medical advice for you.)

Hello @callmecasie

Sorry sounds like you are running on a low battery atm.

It sounds like your cannula set isn't right for you - are you on the plastic sets ? I use Sure T the steel tipped ones and never have leaks on these, your DSN should have some spares they can give you so contact them, they will also change your order for you if this is the case.

It really does help to talk to others, I am a Tandem Slim user too so happy to give you any support there, but also try and hook up with a local T1d group if you have one in the area, having buddies with t1d does make a difference, I have a few on Facebook, here, whatsapp and X, can always hook up for a chat when it gets a bit too much, sadly running high will just make you feel worse the excess glucose slows everything down and makes everything alot harder to cope with, so getting you set changed will be a good positive move to start on.

Please shout if you need support, happy to chat.
