I think non of my NovoRapid went in - Help

So at lunch it looks like my NR may not have gone in what are my options:

  • Keep a close eye on BGL and if they continue to spike post 1.5 hours take dose, if so how much correction if high or actual needed dose
  • Go and inject a second dose and keep some glucose around because if it did go in then I'll be waaaaay low
 
How much did you take? The likelihood that you got none of it is a small chance, I've had an eruption of capillaries at times which hasn't had a bad effect as yet xx
 
How many units were intended to go in?

Did you wait a few seconds?

You would really need to proceed assuming some of the dose went in.....and then just keep an eye on it......if your confident the dose was right and timed right and the 2 hour test is going really high you could correct.....

just be prepared for highs and lows.....as always...
 
Hi @O_DP_T1 I wouldn't risk taking another shot, just monitor then correct if required.

Are you holding the pen in for 10 seconds or was this a quick shoot/withdrawal ?
 
@O_DP_T1 Don't panic it happens, but don't take extra insulin, it's best to go high and correct than go low (in my book).
 
With the possibility of 6 units on board a second dose isn't an option imo, there is a lot of insulin in 6 units so it mustve been some size of drop to make you think you've got none of it?

How long should I wait before I decide if i need to inject 2hrs or less? I test(scan) every hour anyway just because I like to -lol
 
peak action is 2hrs, so wait at least 'til then but err on the side of caution.
 
I think you will have a better picture of what's going on at 2 hours, but please don't dive in after an hour, it's tempting I know but not worth it if you go low.

If you are scanning with the Libre then you should get arrows pointing straight up if none went in after an hour or so, but as has been said it would be better to wait for the 2 hours then correct rather than double dose (easier to correct a high than a massive hypo!)

6 units for a 13.2 seems a bit much......

how many mmol does a unit bring you down normally.....?

EDIT: Just realised the 6 was your bolus for the meal....sorry....

Ok so now it's sitting at 15 so I just applied the correction dose and bought some sweet 'treats'...... you know juuuuust incase!!!

I appreciate I am a little late with this but for what it's worth, here's my take.

As others have suggested, I would take nothing for 2 hours.
I would then correct assuming half of the bolus dose remains "on board".
I would then test after another 2 hours assuming none of the initial bolus remains but half of the correction remains and correct again.

In other words, dosage wise I would assume the full bolus was taken but would test more regularly in case it didn't.
