Not being able to eat a healthy variety of foods. I’m restricted and have to be careful with my diet as I have an Ileostomy.
Would like to know how others manage with both conditions.
Hi Marjorie, I have had an ileostomy for 5 years, also have type1 diabetes. I keep to a low carb diet, and drink plain tap water.
Ask any questions you like, I was originally diagnosed as having type 2.

I have the same problem having had a stoma for the last 4 years. I now have T2 diabetes and havw lost three and a half stone recovering from a hip fracture. I am not on any medication for the diabetes and watch my diet. I have to have a certain amount of carbs for the iliostomy but am concerned about the mmol/l readings i get.. My diabetic nurse said to continue as before and to stop testing. Is that OK?

My readings before breakfast are usually 7.5 - 8.5 mmol/L . I test before bedtime which is about 2-3 hours after my main meal at night and it varies between 9. - 14.mmol/L depending on what I have had to eat. I keep to a fairly normal diet with meat, some veg and a small single potato. The blood sugar goes down overnight.

Is this acceptable?
