Pasta, sorry to me it's vile, yeuch lol (and full of nasty carbs)
Last 5 days have been awful for me, came down with a flu-like virus that turned my nose into a tap and zapped the living daylights out
of me. What I did notice that even after not eating much my BGs were on the high side and took my usual doses of insulin which didn't lower them to near normal levels. Should I ask for advice from my DSN on adjusting doses when ill as I'm a bit unsure and would like advice from fellow insulin users what they do in times of illness, thanks. Ahhhttiisshhhooooo lol

I would seek advice from your nurse..........

my own advice would be to the use the sick day rules, which is geared towards ketone regulation..........

test for ketones every 2 hours, depending on the level of them, you would give yourself 10 or 20% of your previous days dose..........

however, you are on a mixed insulin, so you cant really use those rules, as you would be giving yourself too much insulin........

it may be simply a case of giving yourself some extra at dose time.......as opposed to every 2 hours........

Yes that would be a good idea Eddie, your nurse will advise you on increasing your insulin until such times that you feel better. Get well soon!!!!!

Ta Novorapidboi, I am on Humulin M3 which is a mixed insulin so I'd better be careful, never had this explained fully at the clinic or from my DSN

Starting to feel over the worst...thanks very much :)

When I've been in ill and the sugars go up I increase the Basal by 1 unit each day i.e. 10% for me until I get that in balance and adjust the Bolus ratio after looking at meter results. It's important of course to spot when the sugar starts to come down again. I'm not sure the DN can give any specific advice for Basal/Bolus changes as a lot depends on how bad the illness is and only tests over a few days can give an indication of the change needed.
