I'm fairly newly diagnosed, probably either Type 2 or LADA (no GAD test), but can currently keep things in pre-D level with strict LCHF diet and metformin. I don't really have a good diabetes medical team, mostly because I've been able to manage pretty well on my own, so my #s have been pretty good so far.
I recently had norovirus, though, and this was quite a wake-up call in terms of needing to have a plan for when I get sick. I was fine in the end this go-around, but was close to needing to go in to hospital, as (of course) we were away on brief holiday when I became ill, and I didn't have my own home things with me, including my kitchen and my meter (I have one but when things are going as usual no longer test daily; only when trying new foods or when something feels off). I ended up being a few days with no food or medication, and while it seemed fine at first I started getting some real sugar spikes at the end (we returned home as soon as possible and then I could test).
Particularly given that my control seems to perhaps be slowly deteriorating despite my best efforts, I'm a little concerned about future illnesses. I've read that we should have illness plans for when we get sick. I'm seeking examples of illness plans from other non-insulin-using folks or advice on how to formulate one for future use. Thank you in advance for any advice or tips you can share!
