Hi, im 16 and am living away at college. I have only been diagnosed for 3 months and it is the first time I have felt ill. I have a headache, sore throat and cold symptoms. However my sugar levels are not high. What does anyone suggest? Thanks.

Added: My sugar levels seem to be going low more often than high. Is this normal when you are ill?

Do extra tests @Amy993 just in case your blood sugar is more variable. It will reassure you, if nothing else.

I find hot drinks like tea can help, as well as resting and taking it easy.

Hope you feel better soon.

Okay thank you, i will try this.

I agree with others about doing extra tests. I notice when I'm ill I can swing quite quickly. If I have migraine for example it gives me similar symptoms in my head to what a hypo gives... so I have to be careful to check as for some reason I can hypo more. If I have an infection of some sort I tend to go higher but can suddenly drop low as well. I wish you the best, and hope you feel better soon. :)

If your BG is fine and judging by your symptoms it sounds like your ok then, just a little cold/ bug.
One poster has mentioned checking your ketones but that isn't necessary as you have already stated that your BG is ok.

Good information given by the first posters.

Okay thanks. Maybe thats why i have had a hypo the last 2 nights then. But i will definitely check my levels every couple of hours.
