I have been to see my diabetic nurse in the surgery, she sent me to the GP asap as sugar levels were high 19.7 (always high), waited two hours in the waiting room of GP's .. only to be told .. more insulin, lose weight, I tried to tell him that I was losing weight, but not been to the loo for days.. but he weighed me and sure enough I had put on 2 pounds in a fortnight, stern lecture.. felt like I was 2 years old. (I went to the loo the following day and lost 4 IB)

Then he proceeded to tell me he didn't agree with the consultant who removed my spleen, didn't agree with the consultant who diagnose a skin rash I had.. made me feel like I was making all this up, like I was nothing. What would you say to this? I am devastated to think that I don't matter.. I am so depressed now.

Hi Chrisey sorry to hear of your problems and your GP's indifferent attitude towrads you  You do matter and never forget that. Have you thought of changing Gp's? if you are having a rough time with your present GP. A good and understanding GP can make all the difference  I hope things start to get better for you soon.

Take care with best wishes RRB

Many doctors suffer from delusions of grandeur. They are specifically mentioned in the definition in the Oxford Dictionary of Psychological terms, along with university professors and politicians. Don't you be upset if he is the one with the personality disorder. Be glad you are not a fellow sufferer.

I'd remind the GP of the oath he took, to act for the good of his patients, and tell him you had expected a more professional attitude, perhaps finishing off by asking for a written statement explaining on what basis he repudiates the findings of other senior practitioners. He will make his excuses for not providing it.

Be prepared for a good deal of bluster if you go down this line, possibly some insult and acrimony, it's the usual defence mechanism of someone who thinks he is above being challenged. You're just letting him know that he must watch what he says in future.

I was at school with kids who went on to become GPs and at university whilst many of them studied. About half of them were odd, either needing to be liked or to feel wanted and they have all since carefully constructed a fragile world around themselves whereby they can feel important. Part of that act is by making those they come into contact with feel unimportant, but that's all it is, an act. They have brittle egos and a compelling need to be right, passion and prejudice masquerading as reason.

Hi Chrisey,

First of all, remember you DO matter!

It's easy to start to feel down after what sounds like shockingly poor treatment you have received! The failing is not on your part though, but on the part of your GP and DSN for not treating you effectively!

Amongst other things, stress can cause constipation!

It may well be worth considering changing your GP, certainly looking into another, proper, Diabetic Specialist Nurse!! They are the ones who make a difference, I have been blessed with the greatest DSN I have ever known!

Chin up! Keep smiling! Keep posting here! Things will turn out okay!

:)

Don't feel like you are the only one that this happens too. Same happened to me when I was treated like I knew nothing about my condition by GP. Surgery also doesn't have a Diabetic nurse so I am in the process of finding another surgery. It's important for your management of diabetes that you are involved and listened to.
You have a voice and something to say so make sure they hear it. You are worth listening to.
Hope you get this issue sorted.
