Improved glucose levels

After my routine visit to the hospital I was told that my HBA1C was still too high.
The morning was one problem area and this affected the whole day with highs and lows, some hypo's I didn't test myself because I could feel it so are something to correct it.

The only advice the doctor could give me was to take another unit of Lantus a day also to put me on the new libre monitoring 24hr system to record my blood sugars.
But after the visit I thought that I'll have to change something myself.
Now in the morning when I get up I give myself 3-5 units depending on what I'm doing ,and not eat anything for about two and a half hours( before I was eating something small with carbs. but couldn't take enough insulin to cover it.) then after that I eat. normally giving 1to1 insulin
This has stabilized everything for the rest of the day, not swinging highs and lows.

@Lydiahillingdon . Welcome to the forum.
What a wonderful opening post. Doctors and specialists, as knowledgeable as they are never fully understand US and how we live with diabetes.
High HbA1C = up the insulin. It's a perfectly good suggestion. Problem is though they don't actually look at why you're having to increase your insulin. It could be a change of diet, different employment, a change to your daily routine to list just a few.
It's very easy to end up on that " see saw" with our control. We up the insulin, we go low, we eat, we go high, we up the insulin, we get stressed, HbA1C goes up, we get told to up the insulin.
Sometimes we have to get off the **** " see saw " and start afresh with finding the right balance. The more we put on one side the more we need to put on the other side. It doesn't really matter how much we put on either side as long as we keep a reasonable balance.
Congratulations to yourself for finding a far better balance.
As an aside if you get offered a libre accept it. They offer a lot of information that can be used in such a positive way and are in no way intrusive.

Thank you for the reply it's good to talk to other people who live with the condition and really know what it's like.
I know the doctors are very knowledgeable (don't know if I spelt it right) but you have to live with it to really know what it's like.

I started a support group in the HIllingdon area a year and a half ago so people could get together and chat about things and discuss any issues they were having.
It's an informal group we meet in a pub once a month.

Hi Linda,
Sounds like you have already found a solution that works for you. If you can have the Libre trial then that may also help you spot other trends.
