I went to see our practice nurse who told me that I did not meet the criteria to continue with byetta. The medication provides reasonable control with pioglitazone tablet.
Now been scared to go back but really need some support as a recent eye test showed some leakage in one of my eyes

What do I do

Hi and welcome to the forum

has this practise nurse offered any alternative ?
is there anybody else at the practise you could see ?

i would keep a detailed diary of all your blood sugar results as proof of your control.

the leakage will be blood vessels in your eye and maintaining tight control should see the eye problem lessen.
have you been referred to a hospital opthalmology dept ? or are they saying to just come back in another year for another photo of your eye ?

No just said that I did not fit her performance targets
What a good idea to keep a log of my blood sugar as proof
I get so down and just can't think positively

have you progressed to byetta from being on metformin previously ??

what alternative is she offering ?

and try not to worry -- take it 1 day at a time.

i am sure others will be along to offer support soon as well.

Don't. Set a goal. get it and THEN that is your mark in the road. Easy? No. Worth it ....... YES

Hi. If you are formally diagnosed as a diabetic then the surgery must provide you the right type of support for your condition and this probably means some form of medication. Byetta is normally prescribed for those who have excess weight. If you are still overweight then having a low-carb diet will be essential to get both weight and blood sugar down. Do you test your blood suagr regularly? Do you even have a meter? Although pioglitazone can work quite well to reduce blood sugar it can have some side effects so it might be worth discussing options with the DN e.g. Sitaglipin. Once your weight has come down, then there is always insulin to control blood sugar instead of tablets but you may find that it isn't needed as insulin resistance will have faded with the weight loss. If you need any advice for the best diet then do ask on this forum but beware of NHS dietary advice

Hi all.
Thank you so much for your support. Phoned the surgery and chatted it through with doctor
See DN next Thursday. Positive moves one step at a time
