Surely government should do more to reduce sugar and carbs or face an ageing population with Alzheimers

2: A drug which costs £2,300 a year can help pre-diabetics not get type 2 diabetes

Surely telling people to eat less carbs is more cost effective than taking pills

3: Fasting can cure diabetes in mice, maybe humans too

Jason Fung will be pleased, but I suspect he knew this already.

Watched the former president of the World Heart Federation who said on the 12 Feb 2017 that there is no evidence for health benefits from 5 a day. Worth a look as he is now saying WHO guidelines for 75 percent carbs is wrong and way too high.

Research has shown there is proven link between high blood sugar and dementia. It is not suggesting that anyone with dementia has high blood sugar. Interestingly, the Alzheimer's Society is promoting the trial of diabetes drug Liraglutide to help treat Alzheimers.

See https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/news/...lood_sugar_and_alzheimer_s_disease_identified
Researchers at University of Bath compared brain samples of 30 people with and without Alzheimer’s disease and tested them for protein glycation, a modification caused by high glucose levels in the blood.

The team found that a particular enzyme was glycated in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s disease and that glycation stopped the enzyme from working properly. The enzyme, known as ‘macrophage migration inhibitory factor’ or MIF, has been previously implicated in the inflammatory response that occurs in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s disease.

Agsin number 3 caution for some
Caution is fine, but doing nothing is not going to improve your diabetes. Many people have suffered for many years with diabetes and it has progressively got worse and they have to continually increase the amount of medication they take. However, adopting a low carb diet has proved very effective in reversing type 2 diabetes as many people on this forum can testify.

Intermittent fasting can help this process further by helping to burn off the excess fat around the liver and pancreas. Jason Fung has had a lot of success in reversing type 2 diabetes using low carb and intermittent fasting. See

Neither agreeing or disagreeing always lots of data to plough through .. I don't do that ..
I don't low carb as it different levels of lchf for all ..
I have been a forum member long enough to avoid the diet preaching ..
I know your not doing that .. :)
I am just saying so many different approach's for individuals...

I don't go along with reversing , just going into remission ..
my perception perhaps .... best wishes Kat

My endocrinologist has said for a healthy person, seven veg and three small portions of fruit!
Not forgetting that a normal apple is two portions!

Anybody with an endocrine imbalance should avoid certain foods especially fruit in large portions!

berries would be a better choice for a type 2 diabetic, most fruits contain far too much sugar

Correct!

Though for me, I can tolerate small pieces of certain fruit, whereas
wheat, grains, rice, potatoes and dairy are really bad for me!

It all comes down to: Eat far fewer carbs and fast occasionally, not obsessively.

We all blame Big Food and Pharma but we keep buying their products. Starve them of the dosh and they'll either change their ways or die off. I might be a bit optimistic there... ;)

Looks like the fasting study to reduce diabetes in mice (and maybe humans also) is getting a lot more coverage in the news ... see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-39070183

The suggestion is that you can kick start the re-generation of beta cells through fasting which presumably burns off fat which is clogging the pancreas.

Anyone interesting in intermittent fasting for diabetics should take a look at Jason Fung's fasting course on dietdoctor.com. You need to become a member there to view the whole course, but you can cancel your membership at any time, so it wont cost anything if you cancel within the first month.
