okra. Cigarette smoke, old, new, and permeating a room, wafting from a balcony, etc etc. That I have so many chronic diseases. That I take so very many meds. Being cold. Anything too loud, but specifically non-classical music and the television.

Hope this turns out edible! Going to have to waive the “don’t eat after 7:29” rule for tonight....

@Guzzler I had a wondrous pressure cooker decades ago, but kids took away my will to use it. I asked for this for my birthday Because Of Peer Pressure unwittingly pressed by all the fabulous cooks on this forum right here... my excuse is, I can save beaucoups de bucks just using it to make yogurt! (Had a little bitty 4-cup yogurt maker too but again, kids got in the way)

Kids! They just get everwhere, don't they? ;)

Your chicken looks lovely and succulent, hope it tasted as good as it looked.

Just looked, rather expensive. Think I'll stick to my slow cooker.

Carol, when I discovered my slow cooker inner pot had a crack in it, it obviously had to go. On deciding it had to be replaced, I decided I'd like anything with that sort of footprint to do more than just slow cook. Thus started the hunt.

Having decided I'd have an electric pressure cooker (My OH used a manual pressure cooker, but I was, frankly, scared of the thing), which did much more. When I chatted about it with my friend and colleague, @Brunneria, her pivotal piece of advice was not to go for one with a non-stick pot, as they usually ended up scratched. That cut things down a lot, and I ended up with the IP.

Amazon often have deals on them; Black Friday, Prime Day and so on, so it's often worth looking then, if it interests you.

Ooooh, @zauberflote - did you have fun trying to extract that chicken from your Pot? I usually use the trivet, with handles for whole chicken and other bigger things, or if not, a cooking foil sling helps.

@carol43 yes $$ but it’s my birthday, and I’ve just played a gig that paid for it 2.5 times over Got this on Amazon and it was significantly cheaper than the one I’d seen in my Kroger being sold at “$40 OFF!”
@Brunneria I did fall-off-the-bone so spent awhile losing meat in the broth and it was delicious! Mr ZF said so too, and he doesn’t often comment on food. A win!
@DCUKMod well.... let’s just say I was glad I wasn’t worried about presentation. I will know what to expect next time!

And you will have the carcas for more broth, when the meat has gone. All that lovely cartiledge will just melt into the broth, next time around.

Glad it hit the tastebuds, if not the aesthetics.

@DCUKMod I've got myself a new Instant Pot for £40 on the village selling page on Facebook. Now I've got to find out how to use it.

If it’s missing the cheat sheets that new ones come with, I’ll bet you could find an owner’s manual for your model online. I learned the controls ok, but it’s the “what to use with which recipe/foodstuff” that will take much longer. I’ve found that many online recipes give details on how to IP that food; very helpful!

Oh boy Carol - that is an absolute bargain! If you didn't get the manuals and so on with it, they're online on the Instant Pot site. The IP UK Facebook page is excellent, and of course, just ask a friend. :)

I'm sure, like the rest of us, you'll find it stellar for lots of things, but some things are still best in their traditional way. I'll never make stock, or soups any other way though.

@zauberflote I've printed off the manual. Now I've got to experiment. Apparently you can make brilliant bone broth with it rather than 3 days in the slow cooker.

Sorry Carol, I missed your last post, before jumping in in excitement.

For bone broth (or rich, rich, gelatinous chicken stock), I tend to put it on in the evening, for 240 minutes. I only do 240 because if I hit the -key on the count down from zero, that's where it takes me (not that I'm lazy of course), then do it again as I go to bed.

By morning, the bones can be fall-apart soft (depending on the bones) and the cycle has been on "keep warm" for some time.

I then strain it, cool it and do with it what I will - freeze part, make soup, or whatever, in the morning, when I'm awake and wash out the inner pot, ready for the next adventure.

The beauty with the broth/stock recipes is the ability to give it the biggest possible ignoring, without ferar of evaporating to dry and ruining things.

Whilst I'm positive you're a dab-hand at asking Dr Google for "low carb whatever", now, just add "instant pot", or "pressure cooker" in front of the LC bit and the world opens anew.

Enjoy! I'm sure you will.

Yep. I made regular stock but did slow cook it so I could ignore it all day. What I don’t like is, you can’t smell the wonderful smells of food cooking ....but having a great time so far!

@DCUKMod what pressure level do you use for that “aspic” broth? I have three to choose from, and another control that also seems to have 3 levels. I like your method!
