Info on Alogliptin please (newly prescribed)

I've not been on the forum for a long time but unfortunately my Hba1c has crept up. It's now 66 after a recent blood test.

I currently take Sukkarto twice a day (2× 500mg) but can't tolerate further doses very well as they tend to upset my stomach.

The DSN has discussed options for introducing another pill and has prescribed Alogliptin. I'll be taking 1 pill a day - not sure on dose as I've not long had the phone call and will be collecting them from the pharmacy next week.

Can I please have the pro's & cons of this medication?

Alogliptin is used to produce more insulin for the first phase insulin response to eating.
You would start on probably 50g dose per day.
The reason is probably insulin resistance or high circulating insulin levels, which means that the amount of carbs and sugars you eat are spiking your blood glucose levels continuously.

They may have side effects. They may not. I am on sitagliptin to offset any spike I do get.
I am eating very low carb. I don't have side effects.

Thank you. I've managed to check my online medication records and I've been prescribed 25mg of Alogliptin (once a day) to take with 2x 500mg doses of Sukkarto. I'm hoping I don't get any adverse side effects
 
hi been taking anagliptin sonce middle of October… in tje last few weeks been experiencing spradic bouts of diarrhoea, acid reflux and blurred vision now and again… anyone else experinced similar side effects?.. haven’t taken pill tonight and probably tomorrow to see if there’s any difference

If you continue to have side effects, do see your GP.
there are other similar meds, as that gliptin.
 
Linagliptin is one of many in the group of gliptins medications.
It is used to increase first phase insulin response to lower the spike from carbs and sugars.
Dietary control will help with control of blood glucose levels.
If you have issues with this drug, because of side effects or symptoms of false hypos. Do speak to your doctor.

Hi I've been on alogliptin for about 4/5 years 1st year thought it was best for lowering BG but I think like a lot of meds our body gets used to them now I'm not sure it's having any effect.
But I've had no adverse side effect from single pill 25mg.

Tigerlily have you found any benefit from Alogliptin

I had to stop taking Metformin/Sukkarto as I couldn’t tolerate the medication at all. Alogliptin 25mg suits me very well with no side effects.
