hello is there anyone can tell me the difference between English Numbers on your B/G meter I live in France and have been given a Big Star meter (readings morning and night for the last three days day1 M 337(French 3.7) N 172 (French 1.72 Day2 M 158 (French 1.58 N 299( French 2.99 day3 M 407 (French 4.07 N 153 (French 1.53 Can anyone tell me if these numbers are good or bad I take 14 u insulin every day in the morning any help gratefully accepted

It sounds like those numbers are in mg/dl which is the same format we use here in the US.

To convert mg/dl into mmol/L (UK measurement) you would divide by 18. So your reading of 337 mg/dl would equate to 18.72 mmol/L.

While all of your readings are high (although your readings under 200 are very close) that's not the worst thing in the world when you're first diagnosed. It's perfectly normal to have high blood sugar in the first few weeks after your diagnosis, and I'm actually surprised you've already gotten them that low with just your morning 14u of insulin.

Eventually, your doctors should start you on a basal/bolus insulin which means you'll be able to get those numbers much lower, but for now, keep doing your best.

Torq is right about your meter reading in mg/dl but the figure doctors use in France is g/l.
So your meter reads 100 that is 1.0 g/l. (5.5mmol/l) 299 is 2.99g/l (16.6mmol/l)

The meters in the UK as he says are in mmol/l , if you don't want to learn your 18x table then you can use the converter here http://www.diabetes.co.uk/blood-sugar-converter.html

If you start using more than one unit, try not to use the wrong one when talking with your doctor. I once told a doctor that my glucose level that morning was 5.4 meaning mml/l . As a French doctor he understood it as 5.4g/l (540mg/dl) rather than the 0.97g/l which I should have said( He was rather taken aback!)
