Injected too much insulin

I have just injected Lantus instead of Novorapid in error. Therefore I have given myself 3 times the amount of Lantus that I needed to this evening (21 instead of 7). Should I still do the Novorapid and how do I deal with the extra Lantus I have injected?

I'm not an expert but I wouldn't take any insulin today. Lantus is long acting so you will need to test and eat something throughout the night I think.
Is it your normal dosage 7 u of lantus and 21 u novorapid for dinner?

Hi Ewelia, my normal evening dose of lantus is 7 and I carb count so my novorapid varies depending on what I am eating. Think I will set my alarm to keep checking my BS throughout the night. Thanks for advice.

I would agree with Ewelina.
Don't take any more insulin.
You are going to be in for a night of testing regularly & possibly eating some longer acting carbs to stay in safe range??
Keep the sweets handy. But just eating only fast acting sugar to correct, may send you up & down like a roller coaster..... There is a possibility you will also be crashing tomorrow.. You got a lot of monitoring going on.

So get a buffet lined up too..!

Thanks Jaylee. Thats what I thought. Wishing the next 24 hours away fast.

Sister in law made the same mistake recently. Make sure you test often, have plenty of strips, and a variety of carbs. Not certain, but I think the Lantus lasts a couple of days. Take care of yourself.

Lantus roughly? 24 hours. Some have known it to faze out in about 18?? ;)

I have 10 in the morning and 7 in the evening as they said it was running out after about 16 hours so split it.
Ahhh, that clarifies why the "7".
I will stick my neck out and say DONT do the the morning "10" of Lantus.

Then start your "normal" the following evening...?

I use Lantus. But just an evening dose.

Thanks Jaylee. Thats what I had decided to do then hopefully it should start getting back to normal by this time tomorrow.

I would also eat some protein and fat before bed. It will keep your levels up for longer

... Whatever "normal" is?! ;)

Keep a close eye on those blood trends, & check back. Let us know all is OK... o_O

Made it through the night, testing BS every 1-2 hours. Only had a twix on 2 occasions so was quite happy with that. Lantus is still bringing sugars down so will not start Novorapid until they start rising without food again. Thanks to everyone for the advice.

Hey, glad to see your still here!

Keep,an eye on those levels.
...& don't take anything for granted with the Lantus profile "tail off". Especially in this warmer (muggy) weather.. :)
