Hi Guys,

I am a little worried... I have been on the pump a week and had no problems changing my insulin cartridge and infusion site. However, I have not changed my tubing... how often should I change it and why does it need to be changed?

Also, my basal rate has been set to 14 over 24 hours. I am falling asleep with sugars at 7/8 but waking up to 10/12! How do I change my basal and how do I know how much to change it to in order to lower my sugars for the morning?

My sites have also bled. Is that normal?

Hi @slayer
I can't help specifically , as you are on an insight pump and I am on an omnipod.

you really need to speak with your DSN tomorrow and discuss your concerns.

as you have only been on a pump for a week I am sure that your nurse has set your basal rates in a conservative way to help avoid hypos.
have you been advised to do any basal testing to begin to adjust your basal rates to your individual needs ??

I am sure some other pump users will be along soon to offer some support for you.

by the way -- it took me about 6 weeks to get all my rates sorted when I started pumping 17 months ago -- try not to worry !!!!

You would have been advised to change tubing every 6 days.

You should be seeing your pump dsn or educator again, or have a contact number? Have you done any basal testing to find out what times your over night levels are changing, or have you got a Libre?

You need to establish the times the bloods are changing for you to action anything.

Hi @slayer - I have the Insight pump. When I get a new infusion set out (around every 5 days) the tubing is part of that so I just pop a new 1 on then. Yes my last cannula made my tummy bleed but it doesn't always. I think @himtoo is right - the basal was probably set like that & your DSN can show you how to tweak it. I have just adjusted mine. You can go on to pump, basal, programme basal profile & go into the 1st profile & it will come up in time blocks. Maybe check with your DSN first as you may only need a slight adjustment. It may also be worth doing some basal testing first. Good luck

I'm on the insight pump and I change everything (canula, tubing) when my cartridge needs replacing . This is normally every 3 days. I sometimes bleed but that's down to jabbing the wrong spot I guess , just put a new canula in a different area
I have been on the pump for 2 years now and I am still having to adjust my basal rates . Your nurse should help you learn how to adjust them yourself . You will soon learn to love your pump x
