Insomnia since my Blood sugars are better?

Hi sorry I don't post often... but I am a "bad" diabetic so mostly need the help and guidance rather than pass it out and be hypocritical!

I am 18 years old and since the age of 15 my HBA1Cs (or whatever they're called :? ) have ranged between 11-17... they've not gone up gradually but sort of spiralled up and down.

I don' t know what was my reality check but a few months ago I realised I needed to get a grip and invested in a freestyle navigator... I know it was costly and probably the "easy" way- but to be honest it has lowered my HBA1Cs beyond belief and with a four month gap between it went from 13.9 (before I had the Navigator) to 7.1...

However, I feel awful :( I can't sleep, I wake up feeling unbelievably sick (BS been 8 when I go to bed and 4 when I wake up), and I feel spaced out/headachey constantly. It's short term, if I spend 24 hours with my blood sugars about 12 I feel great. I know this isn't the answer, but it is knackering me with lower blood sugars...

Does anyone have any experience of this? Is it just a case of "sitting it out" until my body accepts that 7 is the right blood sugar level?

It sounds like your body could be taking time to get used to the lower levels. But have you had your other bloods checked recently (thyroid, full blood count etc)? If these are off balance they will also affect your bs control, sleep and alsorts. Probably worth going to the doc for a general MOT to make sure it's not something unrelated to diabetes. I don't sleep well if bs is 5 or less, even though I'm used to this level during the day, but it doesn't make me feel like you describe.

Going down from 8 to 4 overnight isn't good. You'd be better setting your dose to keep you level overnight, then (once any other factors have been ruled out) gradually bringing the bedtime reading down a bit.
 
The high BGs are fighting back. It's like cold turkey withdrawal from an addiction. If you persist, It should improve. Alternatively, bring the BG down more gradually.
DON'T Give up.
Talk it through with your care team if you find them helpful.
