I need some ideas for fat to ad to diet so I can reduce protein. Cream and cheese are obvious ones, but what fats do you eat?
Thanks

It's not just the actual food, but how you prepare what you eat. So, roast pork, with the crackling, or omelette fried in butter (which is how they ought to be done anyway.

So, it's not just all buttering a slice of cheese (an utterly alien concept to me), but no longer avoiding the decent fats.

the milled flax i have on my yogurt is quite fatty but it may also be high in protein, i never tried to add fat, i just never tried to avoid it, when we have pork, the wife has mastered cooking it and the crackling being amazing, i get to cut the meat on sundays <evil grin>

:smug:
Now, on this, I am an EXPERT!!!

  • Cheese on your veg
  • Mayo on your salad (homemade if poss)
  • Oil on salad (hemp is loooovvvveeeelllyyy)
  • Cook with olive oil or coconut oil
  • Pate instead of cold meat (homemade or read that label v carefully!)
  • Cream on, and in, everything
  • Pork loin grilled with cheese and mustard (or horseradish)
  • Mushrooms with garlic butter, or blue cheese, or cream cheese and Parmesan :hungry:
  • Tempura veg (low carb batter)
  • Guacamole
  • Assorted low carb cakes, biscuits and snacks
  • Coleslaw
  • Scrambled eggs with chorizo, or cream cheese and smoked salmon
  • The divine bulletproof coffee (with coconut oil and grass fed butter)
  • Fat bombs
  • Chocolate bark
  • Cheese snacks
  • Philly steak
  • Hummus
  • Hard boiled eggs (still warm) mashed with cheese or butter
  • Sweet pointy peppers stuffed with pate
  • Streaky bacon not back bacon
  • Max fat Greek yog
  • Low carb baking with nut flours
Just don't up your carbs to match - that is when things go terribly wrong...

what do you make the low carb batter from? Tempura veg sound lovely idea.

I use a chick pea (gram) flour. It isn't true tempura, but batter is batter right?:meh:

sounds good enough to me. Do you use bicarb in it as well. My friend who is Asian makes pakora with gram flour and always adds bicarb to make it lighter.

Mmmmm pate stuffed pointy pepper...... I need to go shopping again.

Might try the choc bark tomorrow........or maybe after Bgt final.

I don't, though it sounds like a good idea. I just use egg, gram, water and seasoning.
It is a sort of mutant corruption of my onion bhaji recipe, minus the spices. Although a few spices are always good...

I'm sure there are much more sophisticated recipes out there on the interweb... ;)

Ooh, and there's a scrummy veggie pate recipe which is basically finely chopped cashews, mixed with grated carrot, stirred with a dab of mayo and seasoned. Divine.

I don't have any recipe cos I ate it in a cafe and then copied it, but you can add chives, or a smidge of spring onion, or grated cheese, or...

Thanks guys!! The only thing I miss about carbs is their partnering with fats - like guacamole and Doritos, butter with bread, cheese on toast..,

I make all my own food these days. Page sounds good, just need a toast substitute!

May have to roast a chicken soon just to eat the skin guilt free! Shame KFC isn't low carb eh?!

Toast substitute: celery

Good with pate (meat or veggie) and cream cheese.

But since I loathe celery, I just use a spoon. ;) Or Livlife bread

Loving the sound of fat bombs!

I'm aware that protein converts to glycogen easier than fat so could be causing BG to be higher after fasting.

Thought if I eat more fat, less protein, could work?!

Yes, it might, but you need to watch you eat enough protein because your body needs it. You need to know how much you are eating and see if it is sufficient before you cut it down. It is important.

I definitely get what I need based on the 0.8 per kilo calculation and prob eat double that so I would like to reduce it and see what that does.

I'm losing weight gradually so it seems ok and my day BG is good but I'd like to get the fasting BG down to below 5.5. Reading about the slow release of protein makes me think that is a key contributor!
