Hi everyone i have been on Levimir 15 years and think my body has started to become resistant to it i was told about a background insulin called tresiba and am trying it out next week my sugars are currently up and down and cannot seem to balance them out so my diabetic nurse said this insulin should work for me has anybody else tried tresiba and what do you think as I have abit of anxiety at the thaught of changeing over can anyone help me please?

I've been on Tresiba since I was diagnosed in 2016, I have had to reduce it quite a bit the last few months but I like it, it has a longer profile so doesn't really need to be taken bang on time etc

Do you find that they keep you sugars on a stable level? as at the moment my sugars are up and down on levimir and can't seem to control them or keep them on a stable level.

Now that I've got my dose about right, yeah its keeping me pretty stable, before though I was dropping low during the night and not waking, rebounding by lunch and then dropping without correcting by dinner, its much more stable now though, is there anything else you'd like to ask? Feel free :) x

Hi Mel - I also changed from Levimir to Treshiba for same reason. For the first few weeks it was fantastic but I soon found that it didn’t last at the same strength required to maintain excellent control for the full 24hrs. For me (and others I have read on USA forums) it seems to peak after 8-10 hours. If taken at night I would awake within target but bloods would increase from lunchtime onwards the next day! I changed to take in the morning - this way it’s great through day but my blood levels would raise during the night - neither of which is ideal so I have started to split my dose - I’m still adjusting amounts to suit in the hope I get it right. Dr Bernstein (well known in USA forums and type 1 for 70 years) strongly suggests he puts all his patients on split dose with better results DESPITE manufacture suggested once a day.

Thankyou as I really don't know what to think as I suffer really bad anxiety with my diabeties also have a fear of having hypos through the night as I don't really get warning signs anymore and really anxious about changing my insulin over as I've been on levimir for the last 15 year and worried that the dose that they are going to start me off on in case I go hypo through out the night as I only do 20 levimir on a morning and 7 on a night and can drop quite a bit even with something to eat before bed I'm really scared and worried but levimir is not really working for me anymore.

I wouldn’t be worried about the change - Tresiba is the latest basal insulin and acclaimed to be the most akin to insulin for non diabetics. Despite a different name its not much change to Levimir and is made by same company - it is an upgrade.
I only had positive effects when I changed - for me it’s a bit of trail and error and some fasting checks in order to get the correct amounts - it’s likely you will start on a slightly lower dose - the DSN normally suggests 10% lower.
It’s certainly nothing to worry about - go for it and best of luck
