Insulin contamination

Hi all, I've injected my usual night time basal tonight, but have noticed something red floating around inside the insulin after doing so.

I'm assuming this is likely to be blood (see photo) ,

should I now discard the rest of the pen, or is it safe to use?

Hi,

Discard, definately... However? Change the pen too..blood should not be drawn back up into the insulin cartridge.
Though, I can't see how the "ram" can draw the bung back? & there appears to be no air bubbles in the cartridge. Which is good news.

Do you perform an "air shot" of at least 2 units before injecting??
 
Hi I didn't perform an air shot, guess this must be why some blood has been drawn back in, It looked like a mini lava lamp. I've now disposed of it (responsibly of course)
 
What insulin pen and cartridges do you use?

I've never had this before nor have i ever experienced it.

I'm starting SADIE next Friday day 1 and will mention it to my diabetic nurse and am seeing my endocrinologist next Wednesday and mention this to him too. See if i can find out why etc.....
