Call them again and speak to someone else and you may get a different answer. Threaten to move your insurance and they may suddenly realise what a pump is. Do you know who the actual insurance company behind the cover is as it is probably not actually from the bank directly, they will just be re-selling cover from someone else.

People who are touchy.......feign indignation at the slightest thing. Hypocrites, bullies and cowards.
As some of those Member's found it is sometimes difficult to find a specific stand alone pump insurer. However, I am sure the 'pumpers' will see this and give you some answers........

As in this thread most Insurers have categories for specified and unspecified articles for which they will usually give a price once the have all the details, value etc. This would definitely come under 'specified articles'........if your present Insurers are incapable or unable to quote after being given the information.....find another Insurer, or talk to somebody more senior in the Company.

I put all sorts of weird and wonderful things on my own Household Insurance over the years.....they just wanted the details and that was it, a quote was forthcoming.

Your Insurer sounds useless or incompetent.......

Its Nationwide, I have checked and Santander do it, the only problem with Santander is I would have to move the whole lot.

I am going to go into one of their branches tomorrow to see what they say, I think its utterly disgraceful, its not like I am not willing to pay for it either!

Ha yeah I have a friend who has practically everything insured, so I was quite shocked to find out they could not insure.

It was funny because the person I was speaking to said: 'Sorry we can't insure you sir', so I asked why and if he fully understood what a pump was (he sounded like he had no idea), and he was just like, we can't insure it.

Will see what they say in the Branch tomorrow.

One other thought is that we are talking about Medical Equipment Insurance.......Specialists. Might be worth contacting a few of these Companies at the end of this link if you get no further with your present Insurer........there's quite a few though, some for Professionals and many for just general medical equipment :

http://uk.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt= ... e_uk&rd=r2

There is also INPUT....a 'pumpers' website which say this........

Insuring your device

We are often contacted by people who have been told by their clinic to insure their insulin pump. This page will deal with covering CGM too.

Most people have their pump added on to their contents insurance as a “specified item” for all risks. It costs nothing or very little.

However, you should ask your PCT for a certificate of value AND ownership. If they are not willing to provide this, then they should not expect you to insure their equipment, and it would be very difficult to make a claim on the insurance. If they are willing to provide this, good! They will never be able to threaten to remove it from you as they will have stated that it belongs to you! Once you have that, you should be able to get it covered on your household insurance. In practice, most PCTs will hesitate to provide such a letter and the issue is then redundant.

We are not aware of any companies that offer specific policies for insulin pumps or CGM, so if you haven’t got household insurance, and your clinic still insist on you insuring your equipment, then contact the PALS (Patient Advice & Liaison Service) at your hospital or PCT about the options.

Please contact INPUT if you have any bad experience with your clinic/PCT and insurance.

Thanks Cugila, I have seen the input site too, I thought it best I get some cover as the representative at the time told me its worthwhile. If all else fails I think Ill do some research on the medical insurance sites. Thanks for the help :)

Sugarless_Sue, thanks for the link, I have emailed them to see what they say, their insulin pump site doesn't seem to be working, but fingers crossed!

Thanks for all the help!

Personally if it were me, I'd change my insurer altogether. It will be a small inconvenience having to change but why should you pay far more to insure your pump because of your insurer's inflexibility. Having a stand-alone insurance only for your pump, plus a household insurance is going to be more expensive for you. Shop around too, I found that my previous insurer would add the pump but the premiums were a lot higher than Axa who I'm with now. Our premiums now are lower and we have better cover, really worthwhile shopping around.

If you're determined to stay with your current insurer then before you buy a separate insurance for the pump phone them again and ask to speak to someone else or a manager to make absolutely sure you are not being misinformed.
