Insulin pumps

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum. I have been diabetic for about 28 years. On insulin 4 times a day. Not very well controlled!!
How easy is it to get an insulin pump that can read my sugars and administer insulin accordingly? Or is it not??
 
@Woodey1966 You'd need a CGM or Libre to read your sugars. Some CGMs are supported by pumps, but the pump doesn't decide your doses automatically. A pump is just another method of delivering insulin and the user (and their team) set and adjust the basal rate and the bolus ratios, etc

It's not an automatic system. It needs a user and is only as good as its user.

Hi Woodey. If you're in the UK, that isn't something that currently exists or is available. If you're in the US, it would depend on insurance and where you were in the queue for the 670G from Medtronic.

Alternatively, if you are willing to spend the cash to buy yourself a pump and build a DIY system, it's also possible to do that, but it's not all that cheap and requires you to apply yourself. It will also require you to take the steps necessary to start it all off properly.

Sorry the news isn't better. Your other alternative is to request a trial of the Libre which will at least give you some idea of what is going on, but after a trial, the sensors aren't available on the NHS.
 
Can you say long shot
There isnt an insulin pump that can read your bloods and adjust apart from the 640g that will suspend insulin when you are about to go hypo when wearing there guardian continuous glucose monitoring device which the NHS rarely funds
I'm in the process of trying to get a pump and from what I've been told and the research I've done there is more work in calculating basal and plus on a pump then with a pen I personally wasn't even aloud to come into contact with the pump doctor until I showed I was doing everything possible to control my blood sugars on MDI before I was put forward for a pump
