Are you a Type 2 and was your sleeping pattern poor pre diagnosis?

Research carried out suggests that day to day insulin sensitivity is not fixed in healthy people but depends on how much sleep they have had the previous night.

Researchers also suggest that further investigations should be done to find out whether improving sleep duration could help stabalize glucose levels in patients with diabetes.

Yes and yes! That is very interesting and if it was better known it would be really helpful. I was ill for some time with very little good sleep and would have taken a sleeping pill if I thought it would save me from further health problems. Of course that begs another question - would a sleeping pill have helped?

Very interesting as I started with 2 hour sleep stints at menopause 9 years ago, was diagnosed I think about 5 years ago. My fasting blood sugar is stable at <6 - usually 5.4 ish (control on lowGI/low carb diet + exercise) and my sleep pattern is no different!!!
I have to say that at least I go straight back to sleep after waking, sometimes need to sip water because of thirst or go to the toilet- but when I wake I am wide awake and could easily get up and do something but I don't alow myself to do this. I also sleep very deeply during my 2 hour stints as husband moans that he can't wake me when I snore!!! I don't feel as if I have a lack of sleep.
I'd give anything to do a full 6 hours like I used to!!!
