being told what to do
Hi
I am type 2 on insulin, and have just been put on a high dose of steroids for vasculitis. I knew mybm would go up so at the first meal after steroids I incresed my novorapid by 4 units, my usual apres meal reading would have been mid 6s but it was over 22. I have taken another 4 units and increased my Lantus by 4 units but I am still getting a bedtime reading of 19.9. should i take more fast acting and or go for a midnight stroll.Basically I am asking if I can continue injecting until I get a reasonable level??? I have used 40 units Lantus and will increase this again tomorrow, my usual is 36, and most of the time I average 10 units of nova rapid. :(

Have you asked the doc if there's any alternative to steroids for the vasculitis? I don't really know about insulin in type 2 but when I had steroid injections I couldn't get my bg down for weeks despite injecting gallons of insulin. Sorry that's not much help, but might be worth going back to the doctor.
Hope you feel better soon :-)

Thanks for the reply, I have got my sugars down around normal now by doubling all my doses and restricting my diet even more than normal. :D

Hi Deb, I don't know how long your course of steroids will last but after long term usage, 3 years, I found it took a good couple of months for my bg levels to stabilise after the drugs withdrawal. Just something to bear in mind.

Glad your levels have now stabilised :)
